way OT question for the engine/trans freaks

i know this is OT, but i also know that alot of the hardocore guys know about 300z's as well, so, would a 90-96 300z tranny(vg30dett) bolt up to a vg30 block. both rwd, or would i have to look for an older vg 300z trans? i would assume that they didnt change the mounting points on a vg engine, only difference then should be flywheel/flexplate maybe.

any ideas?

AFAIK all VGs used the same bolt pattern on the bellhousings.

I have a Z24 in my 87. The KA did not start until 89 or 90. The Z24 bolt pattern is the same as all the old L series and the NAPS-Z (Z20 Z22 Z24) If you are looking to retrofit a 5spd with good ratios into your truck, look for a 280Z(X) or an early 80s 200sx. It should be fairly easy to swap. I will check with a buddy that knows a little more.

well, i have a vg in it now(95 pathfinder)but it's a 4x4, and i'm going to be converting it to a 2wd(long story), but i really didnt want to do an engine swap too. i'm thinking the older 300z(also a vg) would work on it and should be easier to find.

89blackse, lots of people have talked about it but no one has done it. lotsa work, much more than average joe(or even a seasoned mechanic) wants to take on. there's lots of metalwork that would need to be done.
