Noticed extra heat...

After leting my car run in park for maybe 5-10 minutes my upper manifold is deadly hot to the touch. and the intake piping is also. I have enough coolent and the therm. on the inside says its medium temp. I am wondering if my dad forgot to mix the coolant with water when he did my coolent last week. what do you guys think it is?

ask your dad if he mixed the coolant. you could also check the coolant and make sure it's filled. it's normal for the plenum to be a little hot at operating temp.

that heat is fairly normal.
though a phenolic spacer would help it

well the coolant wouldnt be the problem. All it does is keep your car from freezing in the winter. It actually doesnt cool as good as straight water from what I understand.

If you car is sitting idling it will get hotter under the hood because you dont have the air flow from moving to get the heat out...dont worry about it.

Why are you touching a hot manifold in the first place? The real question is...do you undoubtedly notice an increase in temperature from previously?

he's talking about the intake plenum, not a nearly red hot exhaust manifold.

Remember also, there are coolant channels in the intake manifold to get it up to temperature quickly to keep the fuel vaporized. Also the plenum is aluminum so it conducts heat fast.

My intake intake manifold gets really hot to hot to touch for 2-3 seconds straight ........... Is that normal ? It has good coolant and I check all fluids EVERY DAY so I don't know what the problem could be ?
