The Max took another hit
I'll spare you the circumstances, but I took a corner on a gravel road doing about 50mph and put it up on an embankment nestled between some trees. After a preliminary inspection after driving it home after towing it out, it looks like I bent the driver's side control arm (replacement already ordered from Brian) and the lower portion of the fron bumper is kinda f**ked. Anyone nearby got a front bumper???
I'll be in Chicago in 2 weeks, maybe I can find one there. Don't have a camera right now, will try and find one and post pics...

I went out to the scene earlier and man, did I luck out! A little to the right and I would have plowed into a tree, a little left and I would have rolled it and a few feet farther in and I would have plowed several trees. I mowed a few trees down with the left side, which must have bent the control arm. back left and front right wheels were in the air...thankfully, the belly of the car dragged on the dirt to stop me quickly.
Better news yet...the local junk yard (keep in mind I'm in an area with nothing but a Ford dealer and people who can't pronounce "Nissan") says they think they've got a bumper cover for me and my buddy offered to take it to his grandpa's shop and respray the bumper!

A new bumber is dirt cheap, got mine for less than CAD$ 45.00. Some advice though if you get a new bumper cover, sand it down before applying primer. The paint will last longer on the bumber (stone chips). Applying a clear will also prolong the life of the bumper.

I have the brochure right here, as we are thinking about trading in our QX4 and getting an 07 EX probably in Galaxy Grey Metallic or Tango Red Pearl.

this thread really wasn't going anywhere, anyway
A Scion is cheaper than an Element, but doesn't have AWD. The Element is also less expensive than a similar AWD wagon (Audi, Legacy Outback). I went to the Subaru dealer and priced out some Outbacks and they all came out to around $30k, where the Element I want is around $24k. Plus, I have a friend that is the manager of a Toyota (Scion)/Honda dealership and I know I'll get the best deal posible. That's why I have a 2006 Tundra four door instead of a Titan.
When you are driving around with a kid, a dog or even just your wife, having a turbocharged Scion xB would be a waste of your time and money. The Element already has almost 170 hp out of a 4-cyl, which is fine for around town, merging and highway driving.
If you were to drive an Element (which I doubt you have), you would see they are extremely well thought out. They are comfortable, drive nice and have a lot of room inside. They also have AWD, which the Scion does not. The Scion is smaller and configured differently, where the seats don't come out. There is almost no room behind the rear seat with four people in a Scion. I was sold on the Element when my coworker took four adults and our golf clubs on a trip to a course about 50 miles away. Impossible in a Scion. He also took out the seats and we went hiking with his dog in the back. It was excellent for that kind of thing. We got all muddy and he wiped out the back with a wet towel.

Indeed. Incredibly off topic but rather interesting with the car review, kinda makes me wanna get an Element now lol.
Anyway, glad to hear your ok and your maxipad only suffered minor cuts and bruces. Are you coming to Chicago to pick up the control arm or you're just stopping by to visit me and brian?

My sister has one, and I have driven two Elements. They are nice and not bad, just fugly.
I was think a WRX wagon for 24k
BTW I wouldnt drive people in the back seat over a 300 mile trip as those seats will wear them out. Personal experience.
OK again I wasnt making a point, but now I will. for 24k why dont you get a used light truck and a used wagon/van.
You will have a spare car/truck, do more with them, save money with insurance and be able to trash them if needed and not worry in the least.

The Maxima is my spare car/junker and the Tundra covers most anything. Your opinion is that the Element is ugly, but aside from that, it meets or exceeds every need an active family of three has. We rarely drive farther than 2 hours and we have a lot of hobbies, plus a dog. The Element is way more practical than anything you suggest because it is more versatile (removeable back seats, rubber interior for hiking, fishing, golf, dog, etc) gets decent mpg (26 mpg for an 07 4x4) and it is extremely reliable.
