Working on the 3rd gen

Well i got the car last year for a measley 200 bucks form some kid who just didnt care becasue he blew the head gasket. i got it last september for the first few weeks i had it i did alot: i dropped in a newer low mileage engine from a salvage yard.covnerted all interior(including dash) to black i also replace all the seals on the motor and filled the mounts before it went in also put a new timing belt and tensioner in it. replaced all the boots on the rack and cv's and also dropped in new control arms from internet automart.also got ebay strut bar. ive had the car runnign a few times but never set the timing to have it run perfect and over time i just kinda threw the cover on it and put it in the corner of the yard.Well the itme came and im workign on getting my own house so i decided to whip her out. first thing that sucked was from sitting the fuel pump took a crap...i was able to get a whole pump with sending unit form local junk yard which worked out good because the old sending unit was jacked upa nd didnt read the gas right. i pretty much gotta drop in the pu,mp and go from there...i need to time in it order to get it running ther dizzy isnt on the right cylinder.after i get it running i plan on getting the mid pipe fixed ont eh exaust since it leaks and doing my lil MAF adapter intake and gt a new shifter mount. i also need to get an alignment. the car came with a nice alarm that has remote start and stuff so i m covered there. i have an 3 series thats my daily and my s10 i use to run my moonwalk buisness. i am getting ready to buy my own place and i was thinking since i have a pretty clean maxima i should just finish it and use it as a daily and sell the 3 series so i have some cusion in the bank since i know the first lil bit is gonna be tough. the 3 series is paid for as would the maxima be and it wont take much to finish the maxima at all. plus i like the maxima a 3rd gen was my first car...i miss it. some decision making input would help i am kinda just throwed i really love my 3 series but i know maximas are good cars and i feel if i sold the bmw that it wouldnt be a downgrade since i am selling it because im getting my own place. plus i know my maxima was way cheaper on gas and you didnt have to run premium all teh time....mine was a midgrade ***** lol.....ill get pics up monday after i get her running and washed up so you can see what im working with!

Bookmarked this thread! Can't wait to see the updates!

Personally I think my next car will be a BMW just for the simple reason that I have a business and BMW has some status that a Nissan just does not (dispite the fact that NO ONE in their right mind knows what kind of car mine is since the lettering wore off!).

I am somewhat in the same situation. I got my 93 max from my brother(who is a mechanic) who just had it sittin in his yard. He owe me bout $7-800 so i just told him forget bout that once he gave me the car. So i got it home with a big smile and got to work. He had told me that the head gasket was blown but when i removed the timing cover i noticed that the timing belt was pop so i knew i was in for some work. It turned out that his wife was driving the car it cutoff and she tried to start it up quite a few times, the result...me having to change bout 4 -5 valves because they were bent and not sealing at all. Then came those annoying exhaust and intake studs which were completely frozen and tested everybit of my patience. Neway then came the other stuff(all new)...water pump, timing belt, head gasket set (wanted to make sure i had everything sealed rite), some new spark plugs (platinum) and wires, boots, rear struts, front wheel bearings, master cyclinder, 2 new tires, brake pads(front and rear) and some other nic nacs. Neway i had fun doing these because i love the max but would sell for the rite price lol. After doing all of the above the engine was still running off of 3 cyclinders lol and to my surprise it still wasn't too loud considering it was only 3 cyclinders. I then had to check for fire and notice that 6-4-2 where not firing so i cleaned off the connection for the injectors. It same that they had some meldew built up and from that i got 6 and 4 to work. Then i ran some injector cleaner through it and that was it. Everything ran great. Only thing to get rid of is that ticking sound!

Well, after 6 month of floating around the worlds oceans and seas, I'll be back in the states next week and can put some of the money I saved into some injectors and a tune up. I'm really looking forward to working on the Max when I get home. Granted, I'm putting more time and money into my MGB when I get back, but the max needs some loving too.

You civilians really have no idea what it's like to be confined on a ship with the same 300 people, day in day out. Taking things like beer, cheesesteaks, and maximas for granted. Thie first day I'm back it's going to be all three of those things for me. Such a great day. That's all I want.

I got to ride in a Primera in Greece, and a few Sunnys in Bahrain. I rode in a really nice new Nissan Patrol in Dubai. We need Patrols in the states. They're just leaps and bounds over a Pathfinder.
