Why did Nissan come up with the 4 Door Sports Car moniker? Marketing, or was there ANY truth to it at the time? And when did they drop that name anyway, 93?

It was 1989

For 1989, it was quite a car. Remember, the non-turbo 300ZX still had the same VG30E engine that year. SE was available with a 5-speed, handled pretty smartly for a FWD car, had clear turn signals front and back, SEs had 4-wheel discs, and the industry first white gauges that reversed at night.

Remember, Camrys were still small and the V6 made 152 HP and a lot less torque. Hondas Accords didn't even have V6 engines until 6 years later.

Compared with cars of similar size, the Taurus/Sable came with a bench seat (on some) and even the top of the line engine only made 140HP from 3.8L.

It was a big deal.
