94 Nissan Maxima Shocks
All 4 of my shocks are completely or close to dead.
I want to replace them, but i like the lowish look! Not too low or too high.
Do i need to buy new KYB(or other) shocks and ask the mechanic to make it low?
Or i need a complete kit?
Does anyone here have it for sale?
Thanks

If you don't want it too low you are probably going to want to get some Eibachs to go with your struts. Brian the resident parts ***** sells pretty much all you need http://www.internetautosupply.com/ . welcome to the org btw.

ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT Wrong lol, IMO Tokico are the best trade off of ride and handling.
Installing them is a PITA (Pain in the A$$)
If you do it yourself you will need air tools, time, spring compressor, time, new alignment (front and back,) time, and patience.
Oh and lots of time.
I got a shade tree to do mine for the cost of spring compressors and some tools, which in hind sight he said that he would have asked for more.

I am not arguing with you because I haven’t had either (have toks on my current car but haven’t gotten to drive it yet) but I have heard from so many that have had toks and gone to Koni and say the Koni are superior. You are the very first person to say the opposite.

One with Tokico the other with KYB GR2.
The Tokico offers the best tradeoff of ride and handling.
That being said, the KYB GR2 do handle better, but your back will be in pain all the time.
A good example is with stock spring/strut you hit a bump and you bounce like 2 times.
Tokicos you bounce once and you feel the struts "soak" up the energy of the 2nd bounce.
KYB GR2 you hit the first bump and it feels like the car never really rebounded, and you just pitch and plow into the pavement.
It depends on your taste. I like a compliant ride with decent handling.
But again, it's all subjective

I took mine to a place and they told me I had the wrong parts for the back (in fact, I was told this TWICE). There's a write-up on it I found from here that I gave to the shop that did mine, and they STILL screwed it up.
Since then, i have done it myself.

I have read that KYB is similar to Koni in terms of ride quality. But I don't have a solid foundation to call out Koni, other than I really like Tokico struts.
And onto changing the subject, did anyone cut their bump stops down as suggested by Suspension Technique?

here is the order of struts from best to worst
1. KONI
2. Tokico
3. KYB
I think you got KONI and KYB confused.

That may be the accepted understanding, but there is no way my KYB Maxima is anything close to stock. And both of my maximas have the same springs.

interesting guys!
so with installations, strut, spring...would it run me around $500?
i dont really want to spend too much...i have madd expense, but i tihnk very soon my lack of good shocks will start cutting my tires and in long run cost me more.
I'm not a racer, although i speed alittle
Thanks for the input guys, i really appreciate it.

HAHAHAAHAHAHA. Well not to pick a fight, but I had my struts replaced on the black max about 4 years before I had the tokicos installed, and they were OEM replacements.
And the Tokicos are better than blown stock, and OEM replacements. IMO.
Course my car has aged this whole time, and maybe other bits are getting softer/worn over that period of time that make the tokicos seem soft.

I don't remember what the ride was like when that car was new, I was only 7 years old when my Dad brought her home.

Koni is so far superior to Tokiblows or KYB Jelly, it's difficult to even FATHOM trying to argue otherwise. I pulled my Toks off to put in Konis. 3 out of 4 were toast. At only 30-40k also.
But I see some people still ice skate uphill.

I got a set of Tokicos that spent about 40K on one car before spending 110K on my current car, and they are just okay to me.
