3rd Gen weird noise, need advice.

Hey, i have a Maxima '94 GXE and damn proud of it. As you all know, winter is coming so i wanna make it run well to avoid making me wish i had the new Altima 07 . . .

Ok, i have several problems.

First, when on idle with the car running, I smell exhaust coming out the driver side. This smell also comes in the car when i don't move and using outdoor venting. When on indoor loop ventilation , it doesn't smell.

Second, when on Drive (D), after hitting 750 RPM or so, i get this deep vibration sound but when i accelerate, it dissapears. It's only when i'm rolling on Drive without giving gas or touching the brakes. NOTE: My front brakes makes noise when braking slightly ( tho the noise is not even comparable!!), could this be related?

Third, which is the last and i'm quite sure i know what's going on, when turning the steering i get those *click* *click* *click* coming from the front passenger side. I guess it's the cardant joint which i changed 2 years ago. Is this usage normal? Could it be caused by a bad suspension? (I think it's the original one :S)

That's about it

Thank you for your incoming help and comments!

#1 to me seems to definitely be an exhaust leak, gasses are being sucked in by your fresh air vent.

#2 could be a lot of things, water pump, idler pully bearing other another accessory driven by a belt. both of my cars have something causing a vibration on idle like you're talking about. in the 91 i'm guessing it's the water pump because i've ruled out any of the other accessories. in the 92 it's a the same vibration and fluctuates on and off. i haven't bothered to diagnose it. i wouldn't say it's a "deep" vibration, more of a humming, tuning fork type deal.

cv joints should hold up for longer than 2 years..

Alright, problem #1 uno is quite simple, will get it fix.

Regarding #2, the water pump is spanking new. So are there any options? The timing belt is new also. Problem was the before and after waterpump and timing belt change.

Many members have had problems with the exhaust studs breaking. Could it be a leaking exhaust sound from the engine or under it?

remove all belts except for the water pump and see if it goes away. might be the alternator pully or the a/c compressor..

Pour ton problème numéro 2, il faudrait que tu nettoies ton EGR valve !

SOrry for my ignorance but what's an EGR valve?

I've noticed also that the huge sound from problem #2 comes when i turn and i dont give gas or brake, just letting it go on the drive around 750-1000 RPM.
