Exhaust

I have a center pipe on my 93 max that rusted on both sides. Would you guys say that, thats the reason why I have a gassy smell in my vehical sometimes. Also my car vibrates and sounds very loud. I am wondering if getting that part fix would solve my problems. THe guy at Midus quoted me 160 to fix it. What do you think?

Well in my head it does look like it will fix the problem. Midas probably will have the best prices around too. I would pay and get that fixed.

A few months ago, my flex pipe was broken and my car was making a very loud noise/gas smell. After getting it fixed (putting a new flex pipe), it was back to normal.

Is it just me or Midas just Blow money out of your pocket? Last time I took my car for an oil change, they want to change my spark plugs, spark plug wires and filters because my car was running rough for about 460bucks, I said hell no! besides my problem was an exhaust leak and they want to change that, oh well! that's why I don't know where to fix my exahust problem.

find the nearest custom shop that'll make you an exhaust but your problem is probably your y-pipe and you can get a combo on ebay y-pipe and high flow magnaflow cat for 285 shipped..

Okay a lil off subject..
But I have an exhaust manifold problem. It could be just the bolts though.. But anyway, My car is really loud, i mean like 10x a lawnmower!! lol. The guy I bought my Max from said it was wrecked and the exhaust manifold's bolts broke in the engine block. Do you think this is all that could be wrong with it? And has anyone had this similar problem before??? Thankyou!!

I can't start my own thread so I figured this is an appropriate one to post under. I'm pretty new to the car world so bear with me.

I'm pretty certain my flex pipe is broken, and a new one of those runs around $400. My question is if I buy a new exhaust system, I won't need the flex pipe any more correct? And about how much would an entire new exhaust system cost?

From reading the FAQ and following the links to sites that you could buy exhaust systems from around 600-700 dollars would be an accurate estimate, correct?

EDIT
I have a 1992 Maxima SE, with an auto tranny.

you can get an upgraded aftermarket Y pipe (It attaches to the front cylinders and rear ones and then merges into 1 pipe then connects to the catalitic converter) for around $200-220 or so depending on where you get it, and it will had 10-15HP over a good condition pipe, and 15-30 over a leaking one.

Also when you dont step on the gas and cruise it'll also save gas.

Check out the performance stickies.

most full exhaust systems are from the cat back.
you will need a new flex pipe installed. it should not cost more than 120 bucks to have someone cut the old flex out and reweld a new flex in.

your normal everyday system should run around 250 or so installed...but YMMV due to location and quality of system being installed.

i believe from the FAQ that's the warpspeed performance system...give them a call and see what's the going price.

So, even with the purchase of a Y pipe, I would still need a new flex pipe? I'm not solely interested in saving money, upgrading my exhaust system is something I've been looking into.

Thanks for the help.

a new y-pipe will include the flex portion.

About halfway down there is this part:

2000-302 SE VE-dohc 1992-1994

I'm assuming that is what I'm looking for?

How beneficial is it to the performance of my car to upgrade the B pipe, catalytic converter and muffler as well?

yes

it's not like earth shattering improvement but it's a slight increase. replace it if the stuff on there is rusted out...otherwise leave it alone unless you have $ to burn.

The performance isnt that big of a diffrence.1-5HP maybe. The Y pipe is the worst part so just replace that and make sure the tune is good. And if it is, there are better performance parts available. Just look at the stickies.

Installed the y-pipe, one of the brackets that supports it was completely rotted out, which is probably why the flex joint broke. I'll probably be upgrading/replacing the remaining parts of the exhaust over the next few months. Runs much better now, sounds a lot less like a tank
