Ready to KILL someone

So I get up this morning for school and had my car parked out by the road (parallel; passenger side facing the road)

I get gas, and am on my way to school and get up to about 60 and notice the car is humming loudly on the passenger side and starts to shake a bit. So I immediately pull over and look around for something obvious, I found nothing so I said, hey I just put new shoes on the back, maybe I didn't tighten the lugs tight enough.

Well turns out after popping the lug covers, ALL 10 (on passenger side of vehicle) Lugs were loose at about finger tight. So I was livid at the time out on the road, at 8am jacking my car up tightening my lugs. So I'm convinced someone wants me dead but can't think of anyone who would do such a thing...

Sorry, still a little flustered... had to write it down somewhere...

I would put dots (perm marker) on the nuts and the rotor so if someone does this again, you will know right away. But that sounds nuts (no pun intended.)

I didn't even mess with the front wheels when I did the rear shoes. And I checked the back one's twice since my driver side rear was loose about a month ago....

I tightened my lugs tight as I could get them with a breaker bar one time and the wheel worked its way loose and they were all finger tight too

Scared me alot ..... Impact wrench time

They won't be able to unscrew them if you put them on with an imact wrench !

Good Luck

Theres such a thing as over tightening as well.

I bought a ratty 89se for the 5speed swap and I drove it for 2 days to see how everything was. Well one night I was doing 60mph (I usually do 80+ I didnt trust this car) then 3 exits from home BAM!!! the drivers side front snaps off and takes off down the highway. Thank god it was low traffic and it hit the divider wall and fell over and stopped.

4 lug nuts were too tight and stripped off and the last one snapped. they were WAYY too tight. The entire car was a POS and there were loose, missing and stripped out bolts every where. There were 4 bolts holding the engine and tranny together, only 1 tight. At least it had a brand new quality clutch and a tranny that shifted perfect.

Needless to say me and my friend beat the heck outta it with various heavy things, while working on my good maxima, as a stress reliever LOL

~Alex

PS I believe ~100ftlb's is the correct setting, look it up.

That sucks. I hope that you didn't strip your lug nuts at all.

eh, wheel locks are pointless.
I can get around any wheel lock you can imagine.

Yes but you clearly have some semblance of a brain...

Most of the people who steal crap don't. A smart man will still whatever he/she wants off your car, no matter what all you have on there to stop them.

You'd be seriously surprised how smart some theives are. of course, those type of guys won't be stealing crap off a POS 3 gen..

back to the real subject... it's probably definitely not needed anymore, but did your car need the wheel recall done back when these cars were new? I think it may have only been on 92 and 93 models, but the wheels were recalled from nissan because of too much clear powdercoat around the lug holes. the stuff was getting soft and causing lugnuts to loosen as the stuff oozed out of the way. you also have to watch that with new aftermarket wheels too.

this is why you ALWAYS retorque your wheels after a few miles of driving. I've found more than I care to mention loose when checking them after driving just 5 miles after torquing them down the first time.

Owned the car since 1995 and never had any problems. And Like I said I never even messed with the front wheels, and my passenger side was loose, but driver's side was tight. No recalls dealing with the wheels/ lugs. And the second time around (after the drivers side lugs came a LITTLE loose) I did use a impact wrench, but made sure not to strip. Ohh, well... looks like she's in the driveway tonight...

That would make you potentially the youngest Maxima owner ever!!! That would make you like what, 4 years old??? J/K - I know what meant...

But on the topic of this thread: If you think someone is out to get you, get some S.S. brake lines...Brake lines cut ever quicker than lugnuts loosen...

i'm still confused about the title of this thread. imagine yourself in jail on a murder charge with the remorse of killing someone because you went outside to find loose lugnuts on your wheels

It's actually really cool.... I remember test "riding" accords, camry's, 929's, and altima's before we got the max. But as soon as my dad drove it, it was almost an immediate "yes" reaction. Quite a step up from a 1992 Cavalier. Had a lot of good trips and times in the max. And it's saved our *** many times on end. It sat in the yard with transmission problems for a good 2 years while my dad drove his s-10 and his girlfriends PT Crusier (kill me) but when the hurricane's came a few years ago, and found both of their cars inoperable (somehow) Guess who was there to save the day?!

Hah.. I think having the maxima through my childhood somehow makes me love it more

But umm... you probably weren't expecting that detailed of an answer

I've "owned" mine since 93. I can remember the new car leather smell. I loved getting in the car after school when she picked me up. I remember going to the dealer to get it and I ate popcorn and ice cream sandwhiches till I was sick waiting for the paper work to get done.
