Do I need to go from BKR6 to BKR7 if I advance 15°?

From the fuel economy point of view, will it make any difference if I will replace 6 with 7? I am changing jobs and will have to drive 3 times more to work.

I believe they generally say go one step colder for every 75-100 hp more you make and technically the 6 heat range is already 1 step colder than stock so no, you won't need to.

But does not advancing every 10° require a 100 degree hotter plug? I honestly don't know and am quite confused.

I'm pretty sure advancing timing requires a colder plug to help avoid detonation.

If he's already running a step colder plug (ASSuming of course that the oem VG plug is BKR5) running an even colder plug is completely unnecessary.

Oops....mtcookson beat me to it.

I am still confused: is BKR7 colder than BKR6? I thought that higher number meant hotter plug, did it not?
BKR6 is a recommended plug by NGK for US and Canada.
BKR5 is a recommended plug for VG30E by Nissan.
NGK web site states that advancing timing every 10° increases tip temperature by 70-100°C, which I think means that a hotter plug is required. Can you point me in the right direction?

And the question that I am conserned with most: which number provides better fuel economy: 5 or 6 under my circumstances (all stock engine, using 91 octane only with 15° advancement)?

Im running 18* BTDC on my VG with 87 octane and it runs great. No pinging at all. Im using what ever plugs I got from advance auto, stock heat range NGK Vpowers.

Id run 20* and 89oct but Im about to sell it.

But what your talking about is the plug gets hotter with more timing advance, so to balance that out you need a COLDER then stock plug. But it depends on how much you go.

The stock timing is 15deg right? Look under your hood it'll be there. If thats right unless you go with 25deg of timing you dont need a colder plug.

Okay, I think that I just went 5° ahead of whatever stock timing was. If it was 15, than I am at 20. Thank you for the info!
