New Battery

Today I put in a new Battery with 700 CCA & 875 Normal Amps, Wow ,what a differnce a New Battery makes, car starts much better on a cold morning, & seems to run much better also! The other one was on it's way out, & only had 500 CCAmps!

500cca? damn. think our maximas require minimum of 525-550 CCA. I got 800CCA and 1000CA, kick *** even though I have had probs with my POS alternator twice already

cars only need maybe 300 CCA to turn them over and start anything over that is a cushion for when you have the wrong oil in the engine, the engine is new (tighter tolerances = harder to turn over).
actually too many CCAs is considered a bad thing by some places, I don't believe that though.
I typically use whatever cheap battery I can find and I've NEVER had an issue with one.
My original max had a $20 reconditioned Pep boyz special. Masa's max had/has a $35 AZ special (they were the closest part store and it was the cheapest side post they had) The I30 had a $20 blem battery put in it. I put a $13 blem battery in my old custom cruiser after I took the AZ battery out for the max.
I'll stick to my $20 batteries, they work just fine for me.

I've been having an issue about my battery, its always draining out if not driven in about 3 days or so. Gone through a few batteries already which is puzzling. I took out my sound system in there for a few months and made sure there was no current flowing into the accessory loop while ignition is off.

So what im looking at here is finding what could be draining the battery, it has to be something thats always on. Im thinking maybe some type of faulty memory board, I doubt its the ECU, or maybe something like a sensor of some sort.

The alternator was replaced already, so I'm quite sure its not that. I'm still investigating it. Any suggestions ? anyone had a similar issue, constant battery drainage?

I'm still gonna say it's the alternator. Maybe got a defective one, or possibly reman.? Either way, run it up to Autozone or whatever and get it checked. Most likely the culprit.

thanks man, I'll definitely get that second opinion. Lets see what happends. Did a few testings today, ive been noticing on the digi volt meter a decimal decline of voltage 13.2, 13.2-1, 13.1, 13.0.

So yeah defintiely somethings going on there. Ill try disconnecting the alternator first to see if it still does it. If so, then I migth as well get another one, wouldnt mind getting a larger alternator too hehehehe!

The problem with too many CCA, is that it is no free lunch. The plates in the battery to produce the CCA are therefore more numerous, and thus have to be thinner. So, the wear and tear of a moving automobile is rougher on it. I've had lots of batteries over the years, in various cars, from parts store "cheapies", to Sam's Club purchase batteries-forgot the brand, to Sears $100 diehard. THe diehard lasted exactly 36 months. The rest of them seem to last 36 months. I just replace them after 3 years to prevent a dead battery in the middle of nowhere-I've had good luck with $~50 Walmart or Sam's batteries. It did crank faster with the higher CCA, especially in winter of course. I think higher CCA are also "northern" states, but southern states get lower CCA for more heat resistance.

If you got those readings with the car running, then you probably have a bad alternator.
I get a nice 14.22 at idle (just go that reading today)

Yep sounds like an ALT to me.

For the price you can't beat the wally world everstarts they are made by Johnson Controls which makes Optimums
I have two of them in my Diesel, and she sits outside, and fires the beast right up in the coldest temps even when I don't plug the truck in. I have been very pleased, and they stack right up there with all the high end bats I have bought over the years.

I also just replaced the bat in my wifes 92 Max, and the 800 cca spins that little motor right over.

Plus it's hard to beat the warranty from wally world 3 yr 100% 6yr pro rated

Ok did a few more tests, and found its actually not the alternator.. guess what it is. The Bose system that was still in there. although i had changed the system all together, the original bose amps and wiring was still in there. but hiding under the back dash and in the front doors.
All this time i thought it was disactivated and it must have been idling all this time.
It must have got defective and stayed on at all times.

So something new we found out. If not the alternator, take a look at the bose system if you still have it in your car. Once they go bad they drain your battery. I had thought this was completely disabled, but i found that these bose systems come with 4 independent amps for their speakers and has a main module unit which is fused near the fuse box (driver side) what I did was disable the 4 amps, didnt know about the additional module. Thats now taken out , and the battery is holding a steady charge now.

All you guys with bose systems, make sure you disable that thing completely or better yet take it all out. ha! Thats if your using another system!
