Lighting on Climate Control

I have the normal climate control [not digital] on my 92 SE and the back light when the headlights are on only works sometimes [like once every 6 months or so] I'm assuming something is loose. Where would I be looking, and what trim do I have to remove to get to it?

Thanks

Could be the bulbs, or maybe the harness connectors in the back. If it's the connectors, you'll have to take off most of the lower dash parts to be able to get to the back of the climate control unit. I have digital climate control and mine's been acting up also, with the display being intermittent, but the system still functioning. I think it's worse in cold weather...

I figured it'd be pretty standard like that, a lot of people seem to have the same reoccurring problems here so I figure'd I'd put it out there.

That is so weird. I too have experienced this intermittent problem and the gap between when I see the unit light up seems to be exactly six months.

It's just the writing on the controls, like the line on the slide selectors lights up, and the light when you push AC works. but its annoying to find the defogger button at night. Plus the interior looks about 10 times better when its on.

I will actually be sending the unit to www.mrwhizard.com to get repaired. I spoke with the owner, Tom, and he seems like a really good guy, and guarantees the work for two years. It's $150 with shipping included, and it'll be nice to not worry about this problem anymore. I agree, the interior does look better when it's working properly!

I noticed I had the same problem, and the back lights would only work sometimes. BUT... I figured out what works for me. If I take the thermostat slider switch and do it pretty hard ALL The way to the right, then back to cold (basically just slamming it against the end of the thermostat) if that makes sense. But it works for me, seems like it just needs a thump for it to come on.

I'll give that a shot maxshima, works with my clock anyway

I'd like it fixed but I'll probably either do it myself, or live with it. Not worth $150 to me...

Holy Shizah! you could get like 4 JY replacement digital climate controls for way less than $150 for back up and STILL have money left over for something more useful...hell dont fix the climate control and throw in a few extra bucks and you can get a nice leather interior off me . I can def find you a nice leather interior like mine. I'm saying this cuz I remember you wanted newer leather.

Gunther:

Did you ever get your problem fixed with the climate control lights? If so, what was the fix?

I havn't pulled it out yet, I'm doing some stereo work hopefully this weekend of the stuff I ordered gets delivered on time, and I'm going to be looking at it then. Don't want to take apart the dash and then do it again 3 days later.

I know there are guys on here that gave successfully repaired Bose speaker amps and clocks by themselves. Has anyone opened up the digital climate control or a Bose head unit an fixed the circuitry themself? I would be interested to find out how to do it myself.
