ABS problem
ABS problem
I got in my car tonight after work and the abs light came on.
I drove home about 30 miles and when I turned the car off
I heard a weird noise coming from under the hood,so I popped
the hood and the main abs unit is making a compressor sound,
like it's trying to pump the fluid through the unit or something.
Anyone have a problem like this before? thanks for any input

been there done that.
I just unplugged one of the connectors in the end.
if you don't disconnect it, you will come out to a dead battery (been there done that)
I didn't fix it in the end, I also have a bad sensor I believe.

where to start first
My ABS light comes on when it's cold out and then when I shut the car off it makes a compressor sound from the main ABS unit. I pulled the fuse like Brian said,so I would'nt run my battery down. When I put the fuse back in the ABS works perfect. I know though once it sits out in the cold it will do the same thing.
Question is : Is this the whole unit messing up, a sensor,or a relay? Other symtoms are, at low speeds ike 2-5 mph coming to a stop the brakes feel like the ABS are engaging sometimes this happens not all the time. I'm confused at what to check first. Thanks for any help.

When the ABS warning light comes on again, don't shut off the car, but park it and open the trunk. Under the rear package shelf, on the passenger side I think, is the ABS control unit (if you car is like mine) and on the side or bottom of this unit will be an LED flashing an error code. You must do this with the car on since shutting it off loses the code. See what code the unit is flashing and compare it to the codes listed in the Gen'l Maintainance section of the Stickies. This will tell you what's wrong with the ABS.
