Alternator Belt Tensioner Busted! :(

Well, i was replacing my alternator belt today, and when i went to loosen the tensioner, the bolt snapped right off in the metal block of the tensioner. I tried calling Autozone, Advance and Pep Boys and all of them told me that they can't get the part. Any suggestions?

Just remove the block, get the piece out and head down to the hardware store and get another long bolt. You might have to drill out the piece from the block but it shouldn't be any biggie. Or someone should have a spare in the classifieds

Good advice, but i dont have all my bits and tools with me at school I'm probably going to just jerry rig somethin up until I get a chance to fix it at home. Would a stealership have them maybe? too late to call them and ask right now though. Maybe tomorrow...

Or take it out and have a mechanic/machine shop remove it in about 3 sec.

happened to me before.... a very simple solution would be to head to the junk yard or you can fabricate one using those hardwares at HD/Lowes but they're not very reliable because it will rust and it will ruin everything.

Yah, like they said, I would just get a used junkyard one. Stealership is gonna cost wayy tooo much. And cant you drive the car home without the alternator?? (depending on how far home is, and if u have a fully charged battery)

I have that lil piece broken since I got the car...I forget about it everytime I go to JY, you can just tighten from the upper bolts until you get that tensioner. Trust me, I've had it like that nearly 1 year but not for much longer

mine snapped too!

Mine snapped also while changing belt over, being in australia parts are harder to come by and the price from nissan is pretty ridiciulous, i also had to go to work so my quick and temporary solution, (will replace when can find one cheap), was to weld the two broken pits of bolts together, luckily it snapped near the base so it didn't affect the thread. Good for a temporary fix, also depends on how good you are at welding.
