Coolant leak

I've got a VG30E with two coolant leaks....not small drips, but not pouring out either.

The first one I tracked down to the front side middle welsh/freeze/core (whatever you want to call them) plug. The other plugs on the front look good.

The second leak....well, I have NFI where it is coming from. The drips come out on the rear side of the engine between the engine and the transmission....I can track it up beside the oil pan but thats about it....too much crap in the way.

I'm thinking another welsh plug...but I can only see the front one on that side and it looks good....is there anything else that could be leaking coolant in that area?

I tried some Bar's Leaks and it fixed the front welsh plug leak but not the other leak......which is a PITA because I can fix the front one without too much trouble......its just this other leak thats driving me nuts.

What would be the next step? Start pulling the engine out to get a look at the rear welsh plugs?

it could be weeping from the head gasket or an intake manifold gasket.
try some UV dye to track it down

How would I go about checking the head / intake gaskets? I'm trying to track down some UV dye, but the local auto place didn't have anything.

I've taken the oil filter bracket and another bracket out and can see a little bit clearer where the leak is coming from (looking up from the bottom, tranny at the top of pic, oil pan to the bottom left):

As soon as you add coolant to the radiator it starts leaking out that hole in the middle of the pic.....car does not have to be on and there is no oil in the coolant.

Anyone have ideas? From the top of the engine I can't find any wet spots...

I too have a leak, nut it's on the belt end of the motor, I'm guessing the water pump is going to pot. Any ideas?

That UV dye refered to earlier is really cool stuff for finding leaks, give it a try, sure worked wonders finding an AC leak in my wifes old civic.

Dropping a transmission has many steps involved, and too many variables for a write up on it to be feasable..

Best thing for you to do would to buy some good quality tools/jack..then have at it..If you get stuck, someone on here may be able to help you out ..

Or bust out the credit card and take it to a mechanic..

Yea I'm going to use a cherry picker/engine lift next time I drop the max's tranny. Much better then using a jack since it cant fall off the jack.

Also make sure the max's cooling system is bleed properly. Jack up the front end until the rear bumper hits the ground and run the car for 20min or so with the radiator cap off and the heater on full blast. Add coolant as needed.

You do not have to use a engine hoist to remove the transmission, just support the rear of the engine with a jack...

The engine mounts are still in place when removing the trans,so the engine will not fall down...

I though this was cool. If you already have a hydraulic floor jack.

couple of different methods. I've done write ups for the 5spds in the past, the auto's should be able to use most of the steps and shortcuts.

you'll still need something up top to support the engine on most cars

Thanks for the useless answer. If I ever need to take it to the mech, I will do so but I ask how to do it. Secondly, I don't have any problem with my tranny. I asked cuz I was curious.

Indeed, and the ECU has no clue what is happening on the engine and as a result your car will drive like XXXX and fuel consumption will approach zero at great speed.
