MUFFLER idea

For all you cats that have an aftermarket muffler that kinda points down, have you ever considered that you would like it to be straight or point up slightly.

When I had my MAXIMA I was about to route the pipe that goes over the lateral links to go under the lateral links. This would allow the Muffler to be mounted straight or at a slight degree upwards, instead of pointing down.

Just food for thought.

Also a Racing Beat muffler from an 84-85 RX-7 would work well too, due to the fact that the inlet is at the top, and the outlet is at the bottom. Thiis would allow the muffler to be mounted tucked into the fender area like STOCK.

The RB muffler is straight through and resonated, very aggressive w/o being obnoxious in the cabin decibles. I had one on my 85' GSL. 2.5" twin tips and a 2.5" inlet. This muffle rwould eliminate the sagging muffler look of aftermarket, and obtain true performance, w/o having to route the exhaust pipe under the lateral links.

This will be on my NEXT 3rd GEN.

Wouldn't water be an issue with the muffler pointed up?

I think most cars I see with aftermarket mufflers pointed up tend to have a lot of exhaust soot on the paint.

I use a Vortex Classic muffler on my '90 SE. It sounds really deep with no high pitched resonance. Only problem is, at the same time I had that installed, I also had the resonator removed. Its a bit....ummm....loud inside the car. :P

RACING BEAT muffler would fix that, or Brullen.

you can have a resonator installed at most muffler shops for around $50 or so. I suppose it depends on the cost of the resonator. I had to have my GReddy one replaced and it was $50.

+1

I had a 16" DYNAMAX resonator on my 2.5" WSP/Y/no cat set up.

You'll likely have more condensation running through the muffler/exhaust system than water getting into it from rain and such. I've seen some vehicles pour water out of the exhaust just from the condensation build up. Almost looked like the engine was running water through it.

My supe has a turbo N1 sticking out sideways and a little bit upwards, no problems with it. Honestly though its so freakin loud I don't think it would matter either way.

I have noticed that almost every 3rd gen with a generic "rice" muffler is pointed down, or tucked too far back. A quick S in the pipe to lower the front side of the muffler isn't going to cost you any noticable power (for most of us) and would do wonders for looks. I don't relaly want to go under the suspension arms as that makes a really low point under the car. Lots of Toyotas do that and its all ways squished.

here you go he is talkin bout a muffler like tyhis one but this one unlike most has holes drilled out at where the muffler tips up to let water drain out the exhaust and also the inlet and outlet of this muffle are at different points on the canister like the tips come out the lower end of the canister and the inlet comes in at the upper part of the muffler and as for the muffler not sitting in right i have owned and had this one on my previous maxima's and it tucked under the rear bumper perfectly without a problem but as Cliff Calvin said this type of muffler will leave exhaust residue on ur paint

by the way this muffler is the Hayame DTX muffler but to get ahold of one these will be hard as they recently got discontinued for a new line of mufflers made by the company that makes this line of mufflers. i luckily own 2 brand new ones (neither of which are for sell :P)
