Installing speaker splits in front!

Hey, i'm looking at installing a new pair of speaker splits in the front of my 3rd gen, but i've just got a few questions.

Are the front speakers 6' or 6'5 ? And to install them i'd have to remove most of the door panels right? (I want to mount the tweeters at the base of the A pillars on the door.)

Is this a hard process and is there a thread with instructions on how to do this? And lastly, for those who have installed splits in the front, where have u hidden or mounted the crossovers?

Thanks heaps!!

it really depends on what Model You Own:

SE's Have the bose stereo system which has 4.25" rounds in the front. and 6 x 9" ovals in the back
GXE's Have 4 x 6" recatangles in the front and 6.5" rounds in the back.

In order to put 6.5" companants like you want. You have to buy or make a custom speaker bracket. Someone on the forums makes them too. I think he charges 30$ shipped. I myself ordered ebay ones which put the speaker to close to the window so when i roll down my driver side window it touched the speakers and made the window a pain in the **** to close up. So I put spacers in. Goodluck with your speakers!

I had the bose setup, and I ordered 5 1/4 inch components for the front, and the hole is as heresmymind said 4.25 inches. I ended up just cutting plastic out of the braket the bose speaker was in, and mounting it there. It probably wouldn't work for a 6 or 6 1/2 inch though. I personally havn't yet mounted my tweeters, they'll either go in the plastic by the side view mirrors, or somewhere in the door panel, above the armrest. I would really love to mount them above [well foward really] of where the door/window controls are on the passenger door, but I wouldn't be able to place them in the same spot on the drivers door because of the extra controls :\

My crossovers right now are in the pockets on the doors [map pockets?] with a little velcro to keep them from sliding around. I drilled 2 holes in the door panel between the pocket and the speaker and ran the wires through there. I think it's a pretty good spot unless you need that space for other things.

You do have to remove the door panels, it's fairly simple, hardest part of that I thought was getting the panel back on, it's a little tricky between the handle and the lock.

Anyone remember who makes the mount for converting the GXE's to 6.5's?

Funny this thread should come up since this is exactly what I was doing today. Basically what I did is, I had the bose bracket and cut into it to fit my 5 and 1/4 speaker nice and tight. For the tweeter I cut a nice little circle probably where your planning to, and most do on these panels, and secured them with some gorrilla glue on the inside of the panel. The install was flush and matched the panel as if it came straight from Nissan. Sweet.. The crossover was the biggest pain since it was just big enough that there was no place to fit it. Not even under the switch.. After some tedius brain storming, I found a place inside the door itself on the A pillar side, but way past the window track so there wouldn't be any interference. I secured with one screw and some foam on that metal bar that runs across the inside of the door. Good luck

Post us some pics of your 8's in the doors. I'm interested to see how you're shoe-horning them in there! Might give me some ideas if/when the JBL GTO462's in my doors let go on me.

I'm not shoe-horning them in there... I'm remaking the door bottoms out of fiberglass.

These are the skeletons for the fiberglass resin. I fiberglassed one of them yesterday. I'll post pics in the audio section when they're done.

In the past I've shoe-horned 7's and 6x9's in the doors (two different times, not both at the same time).

In that case I won't remain interested. Kudos on the great work but part of my aim is to keep Max looking as bone stock as possible.
