HELP!!!!!odd issues with '94

ok here is the deal...car idles like crap,,like a miss, check engine light comes on for awhile this goes off, checked codes all we get is 5-5 so nothing shows up? car now is drinking gas like crazy...and it seems after the car warms up and you drive it awhile the temps falls like crazy and the heater gets cold acts like the car would when you first start it up...any suggestions??? IT IDLES LIKE MAYBE THE O2 IS GONE or that is has a TPS issue

My guess would be a bad injector or 2 and definitely a bad thermostat...

Definetly sounds like thermostat, if engine warms then gets cold again at speed. Those are cheap and relatively easy to fix. There may be more than just this wrong, but I'd fix it first to be able to figure out the rest.

but the speed sensor shouldn't have anything to do with idle

start replacing the most simplistic and cheapest item firsts 1st: vacuum lines -> spark plugs -> check spark plug wires' resistance, change if neccessary -> check and change injector if necessary.

I doubt your o2 is a main contributor to this problem, save it for the last item on check list.

well plugs, wires were replaced about a month or so before we bought car....once it warms up I'll check the aTPS..it's not an injector because it's not like a dead miss...the sputter is the same from idle all the way up the rpm range

This doesn't rule out an injector, they can fail intermittently thoughout the rpm range like any other moving part,or if the injector is hung open,it will dump large amounts of fuel into the cylinder, causing sputtering like you describe,in other words, some injectors fail to open...Some fail the close......

Unhook the battery for about 15 minutes to clear all past codes, then take it for a drive, warm it up,see if it will throw the cel again, then if so,try to pull the code...

It may also be the cap/rotor if they were not changed...

You probally have a leaky injector, i had 2 and mine ran like yours does, the idle might also be caused by a bad O2 sensor so check that too...

yeah? so far we have had 4 different codes come up..not at once..1 day will see 1 code and I'll clear it then the next day another different code and the code that came up before doesn't appear on the next day after clearing it..I'd like to pin it down because $$$$ is very tight for my son...he is already wanting to borrow one of my 'stangs*L*
how do you test these injectors not looking forward to pull the upper intake off..not easy like my 5.0's

i have somewhat similar problem. just bought the car. Heater was working fine and accelerating really strong. Next day heater magically stopped working, after i installed cd player, so i thought it was electrical problem, checked everything out, seemed ok. Then the next day, it started to iddle rough, and hesitates to accelirate. Finally, yesterday it got even more screwy, i think im driving on 5 cylinders now, as my rpm is 3200-3500 at 65mph. Could it be similar problem that 94_max is having? since his heater is acting up to. Some are saying its fuel injectors, why/how would it affect the heater though.

P.S. no engine light comes on though.
