Dexron II -94 Maxima vs Dexron III

Dexron II -94 Maxima vs Dexron III
I have a 94 Maxima and I have never had to add power steering fluid. Manual calls for Dexron II power steering fluid. Dexron II is no longer made. Auto parts guy is telling me I can use Dexron III transmission fluid. This of course is a red colored hydralic fluid. Can I indeed mix this stuff with my original fluid which is almost a clear fluid?
