at first crank up it reads 80lbs

when warm at idle its 20 lbs

and as u pick up rpm it moves all way to 80psi at redline

now i put the sending unit where the stock one is, i dont see why its reading so high

I don't know what time of the day you completed your oil pressure guage install, but keep in mind the ambient temp has a lot to do with oil pressure. Since you're in NC I know the temp range from low 20's to high 50's. Wait till the middle of June/July and see what the oil pressure is upon start-up, it probably will be a big difference compared to what you're getting now. My opinion, your oil pressure is fine.

as long as the oil pressure never drops to 5 don't worry too much about it.

Your oil pressure is fine!

Mine starts out at around 80psi. Then it drops within spec.. .around 15-20 at idle once warmed up. Then at WOT, it gets above 90psi.

I suppose this would be a reasonable question for this thread. My motor seems to be having excessivly dry starts. I'm not sure if it's just the vtc's making all the racket, but when I start her up for the first drive of the day it has a horrible rattling like noise, but it does sound alot like vtc clack-age. It quickly goes away though. I'd say after about a second. If the car doesn't get started for a few days it's usually a bit worse. I did run the toyota filter for awhile but it didn't make much difference. I've heard people say that you can just buy the toyota filter from any auto parts place, but I've also heard that in order to get the legit filter you have to go to the toyota dealer? Someone else also said that it's better to go to napa and get their "gold" filter for the VE. I dunno maybe it's just me, is it normal for the motor clack like that right when it starts? Or is it starving worse than it should be?

The VE will clack if you let it sit for a few days. But if it sits for only 12 hours and it still clacks at startup, then you can try a different filter with a better anti-drain back valve. I use the Purolator PureOne filter and it works fine. The motor doesn't clack unless it sits for more than 36 hours.

If you get a crappy filter, then it will clack on every startup b/c the top of the motor is so far away and oil can't get to it fast enough. The crappy filters don't have an anti-drain back valve, which would keep the oil at the top of the motor for longer.

Use 10w30 and a good filter and you should be fine. If you are in extreme cold conditions, then 5w30 might be needed.

Also, there is a nice thread somewhere on the org that compares oil filters. It shows that Fram is the absolute worst and the OEM filter is pretty nice. It also shows Mobile1 and Purolator making some decent ones too.
