this is how it works on my car; I really doubt if its any different - maybe different wire colors
the trunk light has two wires brown/white (+) and pink (ground)
the brown/white is constant power from the battery (4th 10A fuse from the bottom on the left side of fuse box) and the light will come on only when the pink wire gets a ground signal
there is a "trunk room lamp switch" that has two wires coming in black and pink; the black is a ground and when this switch is closed (when the trunk is opened), the black wire gets connected to the pink wire giving the light the ground it needs
the trunk room lamp switch is in the trunk lid (the part that goes up)

MIne doesn't work...

It's not the bulb (I replaced it); any suggestions. I'll check the fuse, but that's probably fine.

Re: MIne doesn't work...

Well, if your radio works, it can't be your fuse so i figure it is the wiring or something else

this is how the trunk light works: you open the trunk, the light goes on, you close the trunk, the light turns off.

trunk light/alarm system/ rear break light

The switch is on the latch. The light is turned on by the switch on the latch. See post above for the wires/etc once you get to that point. You better hope this is your problem. Buy a new latch from Courtesy if you find power there. I went this route once only to find that the new latch did not work. There was a problem somewhere in my wiring (probably where the trunk hinges pivit, some wiring wore out). I never found it and thus had no light or security system detection or rear break light! Your case may be different, but go ahead and check for security system detection (if light blinks when trunk is open and all doors are closed). Also see if your spoiler brake light works (assuming you have SE) (I'm too lazy to go and look now, hehe).

BTW, didn't I have a conversation with you a couple of years ago regarding a turbo Maxima? Was that you? I saved the transcript of the conversation we had over AOL IM. When I go home, I'll have to shoot that over to you or look at it again.

I don't think so..

That last post didn't go in the right spot - it was supposed to go under the reply that said it goes on when you open it and off when you close it. Anyway, I don't think that it was me talking to you about a Turbo Max, but that would be cool! I think that I'd like a supercharged max first thought, because you don't have to mess with the turbo lag. I got my first max a year ago, so I haven't had too much time and/or money to mess around with it. Hey - I'm a college student!

Guys! Guys! It's not that technical, you're over looking the obvious! The trunk latch switch (the one on the trunk lid) is where the switch is. I know this because mine wouldn't work, I took it off the trunk, pushed the tiny switch on it, my light came on. It had got old, warped, and wouldn't make a connection anymore. Answere: Junkyard, guy gave it to me, unplug - plug, reinstall, it works! But, you're right, this is also the switch for the alarm, but, I think there is seperate relay for the door open light in the dash. That may be where the other problem mentioned is.

Re: light

Oh you're right! IT's on the latch on the trunk lid. I'll modify my message above.

Ahhhh! Haaaa!

I'll check that little switch too. Wow - I think this is funny! Look at all these post about the trunk light! You figure that we'd be able to sum this up in one post (with all of our maxima knowledge), but it took this many. Hahaha! That's cool though b/c tonight.....when I open my trunk...."Let there be light!" lol!

Re: Re: light

I found out what was wrong with mine. It was broken wires on the trunk lid hinge. I guess it was from wear and tear. Well, i re-joined the wires and now the light works. If you have problems with your light, i would check the hinge on the left to see if there are any broken wires.

About the turbo max, yeah i think we might have spoke about it a while ago. Not really sure how the conversation went though.
