my window sucks in the winter
my window sucks in the winter
ok first problem i was just out to dinner and come out to find the passenger front window to be down. at first my girlfriend thought it was missing but there was no broken glass. reall quick i got the door pannel off and checked to make sure the glass was ok. it is but i think the regulator broke or atleast the little plastic part that lifts broke. im not sure but its cold and dark so im not messing with it right now so its taped up in place. reglators are a common proble, but how bad are they to replace? and we cant get them new anymore can we?
and the second problem not as bad is the driver front when rolled down about 3 inches makes a really loud screech sound. not sure whats causing that but i havent had that door pannel off in a while.

Ive replaced 5 regulators, 3 in my friends maxima. got all from junkyard. Pretty easy to replace. carefull if your windows are tinted
My windows seem to roll up and down slow, some worse than the others. my driver window rolls really slow when its almost all up or all down...any suggestions for that?

regulators are an easy swap job.
I'd probably do most of it with the door closed if you lack a garage.
Currently I'm getting $40 for new regulators, but I'm working on getting a less expensive batch in the future.
oh, and for Jake, if they window is slow chances are the regulator needs lube badly.

The best thing to do if your regulator is slow is buy a new motor. I bought a new regulator with a new motor for my driver door one and I am totally glad I did. It gets 10x more use than all of the others.
When I replaced the rear one, I bought a regulator without a motor and just swapped the old one over.
I would also recommend against buying regulators from a junkyard. These parts are prone to go out on these cars, so you might have just a 50-50 chance of it lasting very long. If you buy a new one, you know it's probably going to last you a while. They aren't that expensive to replace.
Now, if I could only figure out how to get the door panel off with the door closed, I would be golden.

not sure why you guys would want to get junkyard stuffs. A whole new regulator + motor costs only $25 on ebay plus SH. I strongly recommend you get new motor since your living in cold climate. The greases in your old motor was probably went bad and it will freeze up. Don't try to re-grease it either. I'd tried doing that and it was impossible to open up the motor without damaging its internal organs.

The only reason I got one from the junkyard is because I needed another door. It was cheaper for me to get a door than to have the dent in it replaced. I think I'm going to order a new regulator and motor since I have to take the door apart anyway.
