How do we prevent our cars from being stolen?

We've had 3 or 4 cars stolen right around my area recently and I was wondering what I could do to help make my car harder to steal. I talked to a mechanic that suggested taking the ignition coil wire in with me everything night. Where is this ignition coil wire in our cars (do we have one even?), a pic would be appreciated. He also suggested getting a battery cable lock that goes between the battery and the starter and requires a key to complete the connection.

What do you all use to prevent your car from being stolen?

Just leave the car totally unlocked with nothing valuable in it.
of course you could just pull a wire or 2 to keep it from working

well car alarms are a good start. leaving rabid racoons in the back seat may help. carrying a gun. or taking your steering wheel off with those kits.... or that kewl steering wheel lock. or a garage usually helps some too.

Your engine doesn't really have a coil wire like a car with a distributor.

I would either put in a quality alarm or a kill switch. Our cars aren't extremely valuable, so using the club is considered a good deterrent.

Theives will try very hard to steal Hondas and Acuras because the parts are so valuable, so a club doesn't work as well for them. Maximas usually get stolen just for the stereo or wheels.

ah pulling the coil wire. I remember when I lived in Birmingham AL I had a race car (82 Camaro with 9" rearend, ladder bars, nice small block etc) and I always pulled the coil wire on it because I heard how easy those cars were to steal. Sure enough someone tried to steal it one night. Busted my column, took the radio, and my work tools and broke the interior light. Needless to say as long as I lived there I did that (and a couple of other things to help). They tried to steal it again later on as well.

It wasnt a bad neighborhood but was an apartment complex and since it was a spare car I had to park it in the back. It was a very flashy car though (bright red, hood scoop, Weld racing wheels etc) so it was a target for thieves and cops as well.

I've had my car stolen and others broken into numerous times. If you have a very valuable car then invest in theft insurance to be on the safe side. If not I really do bel. in the club (steering wheel and the one thats on the brake) and a decent auto alarm with a cut out switch. Use wheel locks if you have fancy rims and tires

Thieves are attracted to anything they think is valuable and easy to steal.Use common sense when parking or driving.Dont leave ANYTHING that's visible in the car.Clothing, books Cd's CIGARETTES nothing should be on the seats or elsewhere to be seen. If you have a bumpin system try to keep a low profile otherwise blasting it will attract attention and someone will eventually own it.

Bottom line is if they really want your whip dey gonna hijack or tow your ride away.

You can also remove the ignition fuse, i believe its a green one that says 30A on it I had that fuse blow on me before and the car was just as good as having a dead battery.

Only do that if you cant afford a nice Alarm with 2 way paging.

my 91 got stole-on just after i got it and swapped my rims over they towed it away somehow and they removed my doors and trunk (i guess so they would have more room to bootybust each other in there) and they took my stereo(no face or subs)and all the trunk walls\carpet floor mats tools\old clothes(stuff crackheads steal) they didnt get my rims though probly cuz they couldnt find the keys..tards and they messed up my fenders, bumper, hood so now my cars 2 colors grey\blue and with a can of duplicolor i now have custom paint heh heh..i will get a camera and post pictures of it and a few other maximagician exclusives like my l.e.d. door handles ive had for like a year i had the factory alarm and the club on the wheel but they had a way to tow it. and they break the grill and cut the horn wires so the factory alarm makes no noise but now ive got some surprises....esp. since i now install my own alarms on all 3 of my rides

Pulling fuses sounds like an ok idea, but they are tough to pull, I always have to wedge my key in there or something to pull the things out.

Buy a fuse puller at Autozone for $0.99. Keep it in the fuse compartment (that's where I used to hide my locking lug key).

a kill switch sounds pretty cool to have. if your key works with the trunk, then unplug the trunk pop switch from your driver door. keep your stuffs in the back trunk so they can't steal it. lock your wheel so they can't steal it too. But then again, most of those lug locks are so generic. I went to AZ and tested different lug lock on different sets and it opens them all...what the f?!?!

So I am the only one who doesn't worry about his 15+ year old 4 door grocery-go-getter stolen? I think you guys should be more concerned with keeping someone from stealing rims, audio gear, and anything else valuable you keep in the car.

bvtran - you dont need to unplug the trunk release switch. If you look inside the trunk, next to the latch there is a small sliding switch that is used to disable the trunk release button.

Drive a POS that no one would want to steal

The fuel pump switch is easy. If you install an MSD box they also give you that option (ground a wire = ignition kill switch). If you have an SAFC you can unplug it and the car will not start either. Of course all of those are only useful if you use them.

For convenience I'd get a nice after market alarm and even look into what it would take to retrofit the immobilizer from a 5th gen (in a junk yard).

Here in Manitoba, we can have starter immobilizers installed and come out to be free after insurance deductions. My Maxima had one installed just a week after I purchased it. It is claimed that not one car has been stolen with one installed. The price out right is $300 with the insurance company paying $150. Insurance costs $40 less a year. So far so good.

I just got an awesome idea to route an exhaust dump tube right in front of the driver's seat. They try starting it up and get a nice super loud car alarm... anything I can do to hurt the idiots that like stealing cars I'll do.

Buy a loud alarm with a starter kill in it. It'll buy you some time at least to get out there and lay the smack down.

I'd like a keypad from The Transporter 1. Only if you put in the wrong code have it lock out for 5 mintues.
