average MPG for 3rd gen Max
its really funny, before during school i got about 250 miles to a tank. like 15-16 mpg. that was driving one mile turn off, one mile turn off and on. and i drove it harder. now i drive much more freeway and longer distances, and i drive lighter on the gas too im getting over 300 a tank. pretty cool! on the freeway though, none of the speeda are below 75.. so its still wasting some gas there.

I usually get around 180 miles per tank, I just filled up all the way to the top and with 1/4 tank left I have 180 miles
I don't know what to do anymore, new FPR, New O2 sensor, new spark plugs, new air and fuel filter, cleaned fuel injectors.... My highway milage is no better, around 250 miles is the most I had. When I bought the car I used to get no less than 300.

here's a good one..
ok, i just drove 600 miles today coming back home from vacation, and i was able to get 400 miles before refuling. also, take into consideration that these cars have 18.5 gallon fuel tanks, and i dont know about everyone elses max, but when mine was on the E, and the low fuel light was on today, i was only able to put in 14.3 gallons of gas, so i still had 4.2 gallons in the tank when the guage read E! hehe, i scared my girlfriend one time coming home from a trip, kept driving it past the e, and it just kept going and going, and going, once it was almost a quarter of a tank under the e, i stopped for gas.. lol.. anyone noticed that your low fuel light will come on close to the e, then go back off when it gets to it? and not come back on till it gets even lower?
I'm canadian, so you can do the math if you want.
Did a full highway trip, it was 430km to the destination, I got there with 1/4 tank left, drove around some, headed back with just under a 1/4 tank, by the time i had to fuel up, the odometer read 625KM.
Filled up, drove home, it had 300km at half tank, i drove around home, went to work and so on, i had to fill up when the odometer read 600km.
In the city , im lucky to see 400km to a full tank.
It could be a little better, but the car has its share of mileage already. Its a 92 5speed VE SE with 200 000kms.
It has K&N drop-in filter, high flow exhaust and lightened flywheel.

I just got back from Iowa (hey block, where are ya???), and driving approximately 85-90 from there to North Dakota, I got crappy mileage. I got better gas mileage going there (385 miles w/ 3/4 tank of gas) than coming back (275 w/ same amount of gas). But like James said, I'm sure I need a new O2 sensor, so maybe that'll give me a bit more. And I just got my engine tuned up the other day, too.
Average mpg
I stopped and got gas just yesterday i zeroed the
trip meter to zero the gas needle had 1/2 tank of
93 grade i took off to Va. and came back home.
I then left back out to a friend's house 30 min
away i looked at the trip meter to see 169.9 miles
traveled once i get back to my house from his the
wild thing is i've only used 1/4 tank of gas now
that's what i call sipping.

My best is 31 MPG on the freeway between Portland and Seattle, but with all the stop 'n go driving/racing I do, I usually average 21. BTW while they say that our fuel tanks are 18.5 gal. for some reason you can only get around 16.5 gallons in. I ran out of gas about a week ago (first time ever) in the maxima, filled it up, and it said 16.4 gallons. I was like I should be able to get more in there, so I tried again and it shut off at 16.5 gallons. I'd like to hear somebody who got more than 16.5 gallons in their car.
Before I had my tranny rebuilt, I ran about 14 mpg in city, roughly 180 miles a tank (13.5 gallons a tank). I live in brooklyn NYC so there's A LOT of stop and go driving. There's a stop sign or street light practically every block or every other block. After the rebuilt, I'm running about 18 mpg city (250 on a full tank) and about 30+ mpg (410+ on a full tank) highway.
I never ran out of gas before though. The warning light comes on really soon on my max. A few days ago, the light came on when I had about half of a quarter tank left, weird. I would really want to find out the REAL volume of my tank though.

My best is 440 miles on one tank going about 75 mph, but I average around 250-300 in the city. I found that if I go over 80 for extended trips the mileage gets worse. The faster you go the worse your mileage, from my experience.
I used to get about 280-320 on a tank of gas. After I put on a conical filter and installed one of those $60 Tornado Air units and placed one of those $10 magnetic clamps on my gas lines (supposedly for better atomization), I average about 440 miles to a tank. And I don't drive easy.

Reply to Post: Strange Noise and low gas mileage.
The gas mileage! You guessed it, I had that problem too. CHECK ALL VACUUM HOSES!! I found a stray hose dangling in my engine compartment last week and found that it was supposed to be plugged into the bottom of this black cylinder-looking thing on the right hand side of the engine compartment bolted to the side where the drivers strut mount is. I plugged it in and HOLY GAS MILES!!! I went from approx 325 miles to the tank to 420+ miles! So once again, check all hoses and connections.
