Russian Roulette Road Trip

The time has come! I'm busting the Maxima out of the garage today...and will be headed 500 miles downstate tomorrow. Since I don't trust any mechanic around here as far as I can throw them, I am taking my car back to my trusted mechanic on my week off from school.

What will be done: Rear motor mount changed
Oil pan end seal changed (and dents hammered out)
P/S flushed of P/S fluid and replaced with ATF

Now comes the Russian Roulette part...It's nice driving weather right now, but by wednesday night the conditions may get kind of nasty. I'm running summer tires on the Maxima, and they DON'T like below-freezing precipitation of any kind. That means my mechanic must be done with my car by Wednesday afternoon at the latest. I made this decision this morning and just gave the mechanic a (short) heads-up. I guess he'll be busting his ***** to finish it in time...So, wish me (and the mechanic) luck as I brave Michigan's Change-in-a-Second weather...

hehe you said it, Michigan's change in a second weather ! so why rely on forecast? Anyhow I knocked on wood for ya and drive carefully. If it snows, stop, and wait until it is ok to drive.....do not be stupid !
Ciao !

Well I got here, but not without getting a ticket! State Cops everywhere today, even in the middle of nowhere 50 miles from the nearest post...Most I saw were hiding in speed traps. The one who got me was completely hidden by a snowbank...A$$hole in an Excursion went flying past me a few seconds before...cop must've been too lazy to go after him.

Clocked @ 72 in a 55...DMV wasn't open today so I have to wait till tomorrow to renew my plate. Cop ignored speeding and gave me an expired tags ticket...Oh well, $75 but at least it doesn't get reported to insurance companies. They were really out fishin' fo' cash today...

God forbid these state boys should be out looking to assist motorists, rather than f'ucking 'em in the a$$...I have respect for armed forces, but most cops are pretty much worthless...

500 miles...one way..... is not worth it in my book , unless ur mechanic's hourly rate is 1/2 price the local rate and your getting a friendly 15% off that rate.. ...but i dunno... my trusty mechainc is 0.36 miles away from my house Hes great well good luck

No kidding - I wasn't so lucky - got stopped in a Progressive Insurance Ford Escape about 2 weeks ago

doing 13 over and the ticket was $199.90 --- OUCH!!!! turd didn't even drop the ticket to 10 over which would have saved me $35 - now if I want to do a 60 day deferment it will cost an extra $40 plus the fine... what a freaking rip!

I say to the poolice! (cept yours maxitech - he seems reasonable!)

It could have turned out a lot worse for me, but getting a ticket still sucks.

It's too risky to go fast on this long, straight route. I don't have any type of detection device (the cop got me with a laser) and with no traffic to hide in, you are a sitting duck. And there's plenty of passing lanes, so you can really move when there is enough like-minded drivers on the road that drive strategically and in "packs". When you can situate yourself in the middle of a line of 3+ fast-moving cars, chances are you won't end up getting stopped for speeding.

On a side note, I made recond-time driving to Indy last June in the middle of a pack of 8. We passed a group of 3 Indiana State Troopers around the border doing 90+ past them, and not one of them pulled out after us.

I got nabbed the other day for backing out of the left turn lane into the opposite side of the street and driving in reverse for about a block because I thought I left the stove on Somehow I didn't notice the cop at the red light right in front of me. Here's a dramatization of the incident....heavy on the "drama" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dNnSFNGHjA

Already went home and back up north. I have my hands full with school for now, but I'll make it down one of these days. Besides, I've got a date with a cute blonde over the weekend

...And she thinks my Maxima is sexy...
