What else can I do for lighting?

Okay, I must admit I'm a sucker for perty lights, and that's mainly what I've been doing right now as it's kinda cheap and really cool in my opinon, so I added some new headlights, a new dome light and new sidelights.. clear corners are in the mail, but I am curious as to what else I could possibly change.. is it possible to change the other interior lighting i.e. the numbers/letters on the shifter, the various buttons on the console, and the speedomoter etc.? Can I change all of these and are they extremely difficult to do if so? Anyone with experience in this kind of thing? If so, let me know, I'd appreciate it a lot!
Thanks,

Yeah man, there's quite a bit you can do. I've kinda done this post before in one of the threads about cheap stuff you can do to your car. Well, the lighting and all is cheap, although depending on how much you do, it just gets more and more expensive. If you read my signature, you'll see how light crazy i've gotten, and now i'm like, "ok, my car looks nice, now I only want that Civic to see me from about a 1/4 mile away".

But first of all, most of the bulbs in the car can be replaced with blue, red, green, whatever other color bulbs (depends on the color scheme you're going for). Personally, my car being blue, all my lights are blue. Any lights you can't find in blue, go to a theatre or lighting store and get some gels. These are basically heavy clear colored plastics that go in front of stage lighting or spotlights or things like hat if you don't know what i'm talking about. They are multi-layer plastics with a very high melting temp, so you don't have to worry about them melting or crapping out or anything.

From there, in any lights, just cut the gel to fit, or when it comes to the dash, you can take apart your dash (a few screws near the wheel, take off some panels, it takes me about 10 minutes to do now) and take the plugs out of the back of the dash. Bring it in your house, check out the back of it. There's little plastic pieces that have the "check engine" "turn signals" and "seatbelt" and all that crap stuff. The only problem is, all the bulbs are white, and the plastic pieces themselves are colored. So you actually need to remake the pieces with the gel, and get creative. It takes a while at first, but when you get the hang of it, it goes faster. And in the end it looks REALLY good. I mean like awesome. I've done it so far on my car, a 92 Lexus ES300, a 95 Camaro, 92 Buick Regal <-(fine piece of machinary) and a 93 Celica. All came out perfect. Professional job.

Also, please, whatever you do, don't get cheese shifter. I've seen some neon shift *****. Uhhh. Just don't man. Save your money.

And I've also got the blacklight 15" neons down by the feet of shotgun and driver. They look sweet as hell. Underbody ground effects are also a nice touch of course, and don't forget the rear fog lights which fit so well under the spoiler, for that annoying SUV behind you or the *** in the Civic who won't stop tailgating you...

Iggus do you have any pictures of the interior of your car or the exterior, and do you know of any national chains or websites that sell that gel stuff. Thanks for the info. and welcome to maxima.org

First of all, I plan to get some pics up real soon of all around, have it in my signature and on max pics... but i'm going to Cali tomorrow (actually today, since it's4:15 AM for me) So when i get back i'll take some shots and post them.

As for chains that would have this stuff like the gels, i have no idea. The place I went is just local, but look in the yellow pages for "Lighting Supplies" "Stage Lighting" something like that. You should be able to find something. All the stuff I've gotten was pretty much from a car place right near me (like strobes in headlights, ground effects, blacklights, etc etc)

Best of luck to you who try what I've talked about, I'll see you all in a week and a half.

I would also like to see some of your pictures IGGUS. Your max has all of the modifications that I want, because I am going to trade it in on a newer max. About those rear fogs, get a good shot of them please I want to see how it looks.

Hey, I was just curious about how exactly you have to install the side markers. I would like to do them, just wondering how much of a pain they are to do. If they're not that hard/expensive, I'm definately doing them. If you bought them online, can you gimme a site?

BTW - As I said, I'll be sure to post some pics as soon as I get back... I'm in Cali right now, Dana Point to be specific. If there's anyone with a Max out here, lemme know, I'd love to meet/see it. Thanx. (Gotta love abusing the free computer in the hotel lobby (-
