do you have a stuck antenna?
do you have a stuck antenna?
for those ppl with stuck antennas, if its possible to even get it up, you can just clean off the dust with wd40. keep making it retract and extend and keep cleaning the dirt off that keeps coming out. when it goes in and out smoothly, wipe off all the wd40 and lub it with a bike lubricant; they are more resistant to road grim. mines worked for about 6 months before i had to do it again, even tho that thing was black.
one lesson i learned this winter: bike lubricant freezes/cogagulates at freezing temperatures. in this case, switch back to wd40. the more often u clean it, the easier it is each time.
im working on a way to remove the antenna and clean it from the inside.
i see at least a few each day (on all cars) and my dad keeps saying i should post this since he heard alot of ppl have this problem.

j00 is 3vil...
Both cars, they are completely broken, I can't get the Antenna down on my 93VE past the 1/4 Mark. The GXE can go all the way down and all the way up, but only manually with my hands. Thinking about getting another one via ebay and just taking better care of it this time.
edit: also... what was up with the whole Pirate talk at the beginning, hah, wtf?

i fixed mine when i bought my car 3.5 years ago, and it hasn't broken yet *fingers crossed*
you can take it out and see if there's any broken plastic part of the mast that is causing the antenna not to retract.

mine worked GREAT until that panel got smashed.... shotty repairman fixed the panel, but the bent antenna is still unfixed. so the motor just goes and goes, i never listen to the radio anyways, but when the deck cycles thru the inputs it always tries to move the antenna. where should i disconnect the motor? i'd like to do that. just put the antenna all the way down & lay it to rest.
Mine worked reliably until late last year when we had a snow storm. I noticed driving to work, the antenna was still up after I parked the car and the radio shut off.
I came back out and the antenna was down. Over the course of next several days, I noticed it was up sometimes, down sometimes independent of the radio.
Then I went into my garage and noticed the antenna going up and down on its own about 1/4 height one evening. Now that was WEIRD! It wasn't just me, both my wife and daughter saw it. Like the antenna had a mind of its own. Key off and everything too.
I sprayed WD40 on the shaft and cleaned it. I was seriously looking at replacement antennas at the time, but after a couple of days, I noticed everything went back to normal.
4 months later, it still works fine.

I got tired of the stuck up feature of the automatic antenna and changed it to a cheap, metra manual antenna and now I have no problems whatsoever with the antenna. This electric antenna on the Maxima seems to be a particularly problematic and expensive one. Two excellent reasons to dump it.
Yea mine got tha antenna on the back window but just like capedcadever said is the easiest way to look and find the damage. I work at NAPA and some one in a 96 maxima came up there bout 2 months ago and we did that same exact stuff.....go get an iPod and Av cables for your Cd player, screw the radio anyway!

My HU wasn't getting any signal whatsoever even though the antenna was hooked up. Since the motor is getting 12v and doesn't move or make any noise I think the motor is dead. I just unplugged the signal cable from the trunk side and it started getting reception for some reason after that.
Mine works mostly, although sometimes it doesn't go all the way up, and sometimes it doesn't go all the way down. I cleaned it with WD40 at the beginning of the winter, but perhaps I didn't do a good enough job, so I think I will give it another cleaning and lubricating with the WD40 and see if that helps any.
i believe u should be able to wire an antenna on the inside of the car frame without much interference. in addition, you might be able to wire the antenna on the trunk lid, but since the trunk is closed all the time (hopefully) and how radio reception works, it probably wont work.
and about that tailfin, that is totally pointless. its a FWD. if he had it on his hood it might work, but then it would look stupid. maybe a lower one like the 4th or 5th gen looks kinda cool, but thats just too much

Mine only fails in cold weather..
Works every time when it's above approx. 60 degrees...

Old bones creak i guess...
My antenna goes up and down all the way, but once it reaches the top, the motor that drives it continues to crank away on it. I don't even know how long it lasts, because I'm usually driving and forget about it.

bummer
