Hood flew up.

Yeah my hood flew up on me about a week ago. That was one of the scariest things ive ever exsperienced in my maxx. My hood has never shut completely since ive bought it. But one day after checking the oil and trans fluid I noticed the hood wouldnt even saftey latch. But I had two bungee cords tied to it on the inside thinking it would prevent the hood from coming up. Well I was wrong.
The hood flew up, not completely, but enough to make me loose vision of the road and make oncoming traffic shriek to a stop. So now im getting a $28 hood from 'pullapart.com'. Since the latch is shot and the frame is bent somewhat, im just getting some hoodpins. Sounds kinda 'ricer' but oh well it works.
But for now the 'baddmaxx' has two bungee's and a yellow rope on the outside keeping the hood down. Its sooo sad. lol..
The pic is below. Ohh notice the lil mod I did myself on the grille. I painted it flat black with car paints. lol.

good job tommy boy.

what makes you think bungee cords would stop a hood from flying up?
at least find a wire cable or a chain to keep it down....but a bungee?

A guy i work with had his fly completely back a few weeks ago on I 40 in a mazda he's been beating around in..

He said it completely covered the winshield..At 75mph!

Use a old coat hanger[wire kind] to secure it a little better until you get your new hood..

Just remove it. You might get pulled over with a small warning... but then again you might not and its better than betting on your bungees and rope not to snap.

I've always thought its funny how people panic when their hood flies up, without even realizing that nothing else on the road has changed and that you can just slow down at semi-normal pace and pull over. Once this merc's hood flew up right in front of me and the lady just slammed her brakes like she was about to fall into a chasm or something.

at least it didn't bust your windshield.
I had an acura that had that happen to it.

now you know why my first repair on most cars is to make the hood latch work right.

^^needs some bigger wheels...^^ stop sportin' those 8's...

one time i thought mine was unlatched, but i was going 80+ and it was just the wind rippling and being all turblent, causing the hood to lift just a tiny bit at the side edges. my mom left hers on secondary latch only once, and we had to stop and fix it. never seen a full blown hood on a street car. only on races.

This stuff brings back memories. I had an '86 Escort for a while. I got the car for $150, and it was a complete beater. I was using it for pizza deliveries one night, and on the way back to the shop the hood pops open. I'm doing like 50 or so at the time, and I see it pop up to the safety catch, and I'm thinking to myself that isn't a good thing, I had better slow down, and all of a sudden it flips up, and slams into the windshield. I don't know how the windshield held up, but it did. Now I'm on a twisty road, not too far from a turn, still doing like 45 or so, and I can't see a thing. I wound up sticking my head out the window to see where the road was, and managed to pull off the road that way. Then, I couldn't get the hood to go down. Here I am on the side of the road, jumping up on down on the hood trying to get it closed enough so I can get back to the shop. I finally did manage to mash it down, so well in fact that it took me two hours the next day to get the thing opened again. As I remember it, that happened to me at least two other times in that car, before I finally figured out what was wrong with the main latch, and the safety latch, and got them fixed up enough to keep the hood closed.
