Your Opinions?

So I still have my Maxima and all I want to do is get ~$500 out of it. Mechanically, it has a broken lower ball joint and needs an alignment to run...that is it. Problem is that it will cost just under $500 to get it to that point. Everything else on the car is functional; doors open and close all around and everything. New engine in it as well just 15,000 miles ago.

So what do you guys think I should do at this point. Right now, there is $200 in it to get a tierod on and that is where I stand. Please help! Remember, all I want out of it is a $500 profit!

IMHO,You will never get $500 out of it whole..

Part it out if you have the space to store it..

Go to the junkyard and get 3 doors, 2 fenders, a bumper cover and corner light and sell it as is.

Someone could just put a cheepie paint job on it and have a good dependable daily... Seems like the car is in great condition aside from the cosmetic damage...

I do not have much money AT ALL to put in it. It is absolutely in great condition outside of the scraps and broken ball joint.

I seriously need advice on this though I NEED $500 profit out of it BADLY!

I also do not have a place to keep it to part it out at.

What do you mean by $500 profit - are you willing to sell it for $ 500 or do you want $500 over what you bought it for (in which case - how much)

Profit means that if I put $500 into it, I want $1000 for it. Put $250 into it, I want $750.

well you know that engine would pull a decent price for you. you've also got interior pieces, and other things that people may want (except for that one seat that looks a bit tattered...). you have window regulators, sunroof, all sorts of switches, a trunk and taillights, the radio/speakers, climate control pieces... gas tank, etc.

You already know the one part I want, and there's another I'd maybe want, depending on its condition, so you know you've got a guaranteed $75ish already.

Called a salvage company that wants $100 for the car...LOL!

Yeah chances are I will pull some parts out, have it towed from a salvage yard and get like $100 for it, then sell the rest. The biggest problem is going to be getting mechanical parts off the car like the engine seeing as I do not have an engine hoist. With this in mind, ideas?

The engine can come out the bottom if you remove most of the suspension..

Put an ad on Craiglist:

(auto parts section)

Excellent running engine and transmission from a 1990 Nissan Maxima. Lots of other parts still good, interior, glass, etc. Need to take entire car, will not part out. Car not driveable, needs to be towed or trailered $600 obo.

your phone number, etc.

If anyone tries to lowball you, just tell them you have a receipt for $xxx for the engine, if you have it. Otherwise, just say that the engine and tranny are easily worth the money, the other parts are just a bonus.

but why sell the car for someone else to part? that's like leaving stuck as the wholesaler. and you know Nike could sell shoes directly and make tons of money if they wanted to do so, instead of wholesaling them to stores and letting the stores turn a profit. so.. i mean he could just part it, instead of selling it 'for parts' and letting someone else turn his profit.

hell, if my timing belt comes apart before I make it to my uncle's shop to get it replaced, I'd sure need that engine... and he'd sure be glad he didn't sell it whole as a parts car. [knock on wood... i'd rather spend that money on a 5spd swap not a motor replacement]

I would see if I can get those parts also, but I'd keep driving it.

I got something...a little better to replace it:

Right now, I just need the money from it to live off of and pay bills.

I thought about getting a 1993 525i 5-speed 2.5 Liter I6 before getting my VE. It was almost perfect, dark green, aftermarket chrome wheels, leather, everything. For $3300 as well... I'm a fan of the 5 series and hope the new car treats you well...

Just hope the maintenance costs don't hurt you too bad

Very true. That and preventative maintainance.

I love it though. I get so many compliments it is just refreshing. I was aiming to get a 5speed first, but when I saw this, and how great the condition of the auto was, I grabbed it.

Back on subject of the Maxima though, I now have 2 people lined up who are interested in buying it for $800. Will update as I know more

Bimmers* Beemers refers to their bikes.

It is the overall experience. The way they handle, which is virtually second to none; a distinvely sporty feel that easily feels very comfortable; great quality built engines that last a long time.

I always thought that my Maxima was great, and I still do. They are very well built cars, however drive a stock 3rd gen vs a stock BMW e34 (series I got), and the difference will blow your mind. With that said though...that Maxima will always hold a dear place in my memory

everyone has their own opinions, I didn't find the 5 series and 7 series from the 90s particularly nice, or fun to drive. (i drove them in the early 2ks

It is...we are discussing how effective a BMW is at looking good...which results into the buyer of my car having a higher respect for me...which means more money for the Maxima! Yeah! That's it!

not kidding, it was a 750iL though.
and it was before I had my VE maxs
I just drove them because of heated seats and someone else's gas.
didn't drive the 740s though, they had too many other issues
