No High beams ! Need Help
No High beams ! Need Help
Well I was driving fast down our road tonight and my high beams cut off all together and I was like oh no so I flipped the switch to low and they worked fine then I switched back to high and just the left beam was on so I was confused then turned back to low and back to high and now only the right is on ! So I am so confused I know both bulbs are fine not going to replace on a whim they are silverstars and I like them. So sometimes after playing with the lights I can get one light to shine but most of the time no light.
The problem only effects the high beams so what could I check are there independent relays for each headlight ? why would both act up?
Thanks for any help!!

Most likely the headlight switch contacts need cleaned...
You can try to clean the switch

Or just replace it with a new unit...

I agree with MyGreenMax94. I had a similar issue and replaced bulbs and checked relays. That didn't fix it. The combination switch on the steering column had dirty contacts. Just clean them with electrical contact cleaner, or use the attached write-up, and you should be back in business. It's a pretty easy job.
Well dosent that switch just cut both headlights on or off or is there a switch for each headlight your are closing when you turn the high beams on because if there are independent switches then that would be the reason why i only have one light on sometimes.
But i will take it apart and clean everything up and see what i got thanks for the write up greeny!

each headlight (right, left / low, high) has individual contact inside the switch. it's a very common problem. mine did the same thing a couple months ago.
remove switch and clean and see what happens.
If that doesn't fix it, swap your bulbs left to right and see if the problem follows the bulbs or not.
then come back and tell us what it's doing.

Well I cleaned the all the terminals but the high beam terminals had black dots on the copper contact surface so I scraped it off with a tiny screwdriver and then sprayed with electronis cleaner and now my problem is solved.
Thanks
Heresmymind - if I were to redo the headlight wiring harness where would I start of course with the bulb connector but how far into the harness ?
Where do they end up?
