I think that I will be finally taking apart my car to ohm out my injectors. So I need to take off my upper intake manifold. Just the upper to take the fuel rail out, (or at least be able to get the injector connections off) right? Any thing I need to know? Just unbolt it right? Will I need replacement gaskets? Are there any water jackets that I need to worry about or anything that I should do or know.

I would like things to go as smoth as possible, I'm not real big on running into surprizes. (like that ever happens)

203,000mi and counting

You can get to all connections except the #2 injector without removing your intake manifold. Why not check them first and see if they are in tolerance. If so, I wouldn't bother with #2 unless you have a bad miss and can't find any other root cause. This might save you a surprise or two.

well thats what I was going to do at first, but I cant get the injector plugs off without raping them (dry rotted plastic breaks easily) anyone else have some input, or want to answer my question rather than making another suggestion?

I took the intake off my previous 3rd gen. You will need a Torx head can't remember what size. Junk gets in the head of those bolts. Take your bit and place it in the head of the bolt, take a small hammer and tap it to make sure it is in good, then loosen the bolt. Otherwise they strip real easy. All in all it wasn't difficult, there just a lot of little vacuum and other misc lines that you keep finding every time u try to lift the intake off. I'd suggest marking which ones go where unless you are very familar with their routing.

Could be a number of things. Poorly gapped spark plugs, injector going bad, or the connection with the injector and the pig tails... Jumped timing possibly, that happened to me. Bad plug wire maybe. Is it at a certain range in the rpms that it losses power?

Im sure that I would know if it were jumped timing, also if that were the case there would be the power loss all of the time; I did a tune up less than a year ago: cap, rotor, NGK plugs, and plug wires. I have purchased a pressure gage for the fuel and a in line spark tester for the spark. (both for about $20 harbor freight tools) seeing how the problem is intermittent, it will probably be hard to catch.

I believe its a hex and not a torx... the size is 6mm, I'd just get the 6mm hex to attach to your ratchet instead of like using a 6mm from an alen-wrench set. As long as you're using the proper size you shouldn't have to worry about stripping it. unless you wanna strip it

If you're gonna remove the plentum, I'd get the plentum gasket its 6-7 bucks and it ensures that you dont get any vacuum leaks.

yeah i was thinking it was called a hex but couldn't remember. I was saying to lightly tap the bit in because it seems that you can strip the head of the bolt very easily. I did that in one and i was luck that i was able to git a larger size bit and hammer it in and very gently get the bolt loose.
