i just got a new sony deck, and for some reason the lowest volume setting is extremely loud and the highest is at 4 bars out of 20. when i play it at "low" volume there is also a static noise in the background. the guys at tweeter said i would have to bypass the bose amps and go straight to the speakers to get rid of the static and to fix the volume. has anyone had to do this or have this problem? i want to know if bypassing the amps will hurt the overall sound of the system.

I dont know why everybody

has these problems. When I installed my old HU ( well see how the new one goes) all I did was get the adapters (3) from the stereo place where i used to work (i got them for free but i think we sold em for 35(all three). ) And pluged them into the stock harness and the with the wires coming out of the adapters I conected them to the new hu. and it worked fine in fact because I used the old amps I only bought a 20x4 watt HU and it still pumped.

As for your problem how did you hook up the hu? did you cut the harness?

just kidding

but It sounds like the harness was cut thats what happens when the volume is low you hear that fuzzy buzz thats why you should use an adapter. The high volume thing. I dont know but it sounds like a problem with the deck. Anyone else hink so?

i didnt do the install, tweeter did it. they also installed my older kenwood deck, and it did the same high volume thing. i was thinking maybe theres too much power going to the speakers, with the 52x4 deck and the bose amps?

but I dont think so because I hooked up and explode deck thats was 50x4 and it was fine i think it may be an instalation problem. try to find out how they installed it.

I'm not sure the BOSE is your problem, but it could be.
If you just replaced the HU, then you need an adapter and then dont worry about bypassing the amps. If you replaced the speakers too, then bypass the amps
I just posted this two days ago, but here it is anyway

if you look at the amps, there is a connector going in that has 4 wires going in
for each amp, there should be 2 of those wires that are larger -one black ground and one red power for the amp
the other 2 wires going into are the speaker signal wires; they are differnt colored stripes for each side, but in general the white/any color stripe is +, and black/any color stripe is -
on one of the speakers the wires are red, black big ones (amp + and -) and white (no stripe), black(no stripe) thinner ones (speaker + -), just be sure to use the thinner black wire

so basically you need to splice the speaker +,- wires (the thin ones) from the harness into the +,- of your new speakers and that's it
then when you wire the harness to the head unit, just use the normal harness you can buy from Best Buy, Crutchfield or wherever and wire the radio according to the colors it tells you (match the radio's +12V wire to the harness +12V, radios front right + speaker to harness front right + speaker, etc)

alright heres an update- first of all the reason i am going thru tweeter is because i know a couple guys who work there and they give me discounts, etc. i went back there yesterday and told them my problem. they said they could fix the fuzzy noise but the best way to fix the high volume problem would be to get new speakers. supposedly, the bose speakers have too low an impedence, lets say they are 2 ohm speakers. most speakers are around 4 ohms, so they would play half as loud as the bose speakers. combining their low impedence with the more powerful HU causes the volume too be too high because there is essentially too much power going to those speakers. if i got the 4 ohm speakers, it would fix the problem. do i want all new speakers? no because im going to college in a few months. oh and they also said that bypassing the amps alone could do the job, but not likely. damn.

I had this same problem... Letting someone hook up your radio and they do ahalf a** job. I had to run new speaker wires under the carpet on the floor board to the trunk for the 6x9's and Also had to run new wires for the door speakers.
This was pretty much all that I could do. The damage had already been done. Nissan Charged me like $150 to run new wires and bypass the amps. Kinda costy but atleast they knew what the H*** they were doing! And it still sounds great!!! Nothing Is Visable. If this is your last option it is atleast a good one in my opinion. Hopefully your isnt f**ked up that bad.

I have the same problem... Heres my version.

I added a Sony Xplod 52x4 HU into my Bose system in the beginning of June. The harness was already cut off of the car so I was left with bare wires to work with. I matched eveything up correctly with the exception of my amp turn on wire (i have it all hooked up directly to the battery now) and my system has the same problem about volume. At two notches, its plenty loud. I guess its true that the speakers are at like 2ohm compared to new speakers at 4ohm and I can definitely see that this is indeed the difference, BUT... I was told that there is such a thing available called a "premium wire harness" ($50) which allows you to balance the strength of amplification sent from the HU to the bose amps therefore lowering the speakers sound vs the HU settings to sound rather nice.

I hope this helps....

As for me, I havent messed with it yet. The loudness hasnt bothered me all too much. In fact, I've had people compliment my system and ask it is aftermarket.....hahaha.... it only sucks when im out with the gf....too loud for conversation even on the lowest setting.

Oh well...

alright update- the bose amps in the front of the car were bypassed. these 2 speakers are the only ones with the low impedence, the rear speakers are 4 ohm. so by bypassing the amps of only the 2 front speakers the fuzzy noise was cleared up and the volume is back to normal. it cost me $50 but i will never have that annoying high volume problem again. the sound quality is just as good as before i did the adjustments. problem solved!
