I am down for the weightloss, but not the introduction of a "ricey appeal." Is it possible to paint them?

of course they are paintable, but why would you want to paint it?? if you just wanted something light and were gonna paint it just use fiberglass. carbon fiber looks sooo good, and it's not really that ricey at all. FAKE carbon fiber is ricey.

Now that you mention it I haven't ever seen what real carbon fiber should look like....where can I find a picture of what it looks like?

ive seen hondas with the carbon fiber hoods painted body color but left kinda stripes that were left carbon fiber. it looked really sweet. one thing about carbon fiber hoods that sucks is, if you live in an area that it gets cold the carbon fiber will crack and chip off in parts.

Yes, you can paint carbon fiber. It will *not* leave lines if painted correctly. The reason is they just sprayed over the fiber, not took the necessary steps to smooth it. Also, carbon fiber will not crack up and chip in the cold. If you get it clear coated it will last just like a normal hood. If you leave it not clear coated the substance that binds the fiber will deteriorate in the sunlight. Other than that its just a normal hood.
BTW, most carbon fiber hoods are a single layer of carbon fiber layed over a fiberglass core. The only way to really make a 100% carbon fiber hood is to vacuum bag it(like F1 style ****) which costs a whole freakin lot.
