I'll second that, certainly sounds like a short somewhere in the wiring. Look for damage to the harness somewhere. Did this just start happening? If so, have you done any work to the car at all recently?

Check the rear tailight bulb sockets for corrosion. Very common problem on these cars..

The circuit boards in these cars at this age can be a common problem. The wires get old and break and sometimes it can cause the lights to do odd things becasue it is searching for a ground. Many of the older Altimas are prone to this too. If this is your problem, then this is what you need: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/89-91...32724393QQrdZ1

This same thing happened to me after I installed my new headunit so I thought that caused the problem. I just replaced the bulbs in the rear because the glass looked a little dark. Then I tried turning on the lights and the fuse for the tails blew. The bulb panel or circuit board looks fine. Does this still sound like the bulb circuit board is the problem?

This problem would probably be worth a trip to your local j-yard for a used unit test..

I saw that there are three sets of wires and two have connectors. The third set goes behind the "carpet", does that also have a connector?

The upper right bulb in the right side panel would not come out of it's socket. The black insulation in the rear of the socket is melted and after busting out the bulb everything in there was melted. Don't know exactly what happened but maybe since the bulb is really old it caused a problem. Should I replace the socket or the whole panel?
