What kind of ticking? A really faint, quiet ticking? Could be broken exhaust studs. Does it fade away after the engine is fully warmed up?

My first guess would be a couple broken exhaust manifold studs...

Some more detailed information on the sound would help us diagnose the problem better...

1. Is the sound at idle or when driving?

2. Does it only do it when the engine is cold,or when hot also?

3. If you can, upload a short video of the sound,we may be able to help you out even better..

CV axles click when turning. if they click when going straight, you are screwed

haha. I had that problem before the bf crashed the max last june. [he owned it then of course]
They replaced those and it was perfectly fine afterwards.

If the front stud/s are broken, then labor will not be so bad(still high, but not outrageous)

The rear studs are a different story, labor charges will be quite high if the rear manifold stud/s are broken, mainly due to the area they are at does not have much space to work in(firewall area).

Check out http://www.4dsc.com/articles/ for a nice write up on the stud job.

To check if the studs are indeed the souce of your ticking noise, grab a flashlight/refer to pics below...

Rear

Front

If you find any of the nuts are missing on the front or rear manifolds(six on
each manifold),then i would suspect the ticking sound is from broken studs...
