I used two $3 cans of silver spray paint on my dash and it looks fine, I also used a clear coat. I have a friend that bought the "special dash paint" $20 cans and it looks the exact same as mine.

Do you still have the cans if you do what brand was it. I think that there also may be a difference in type like a lacquer paint or something which may not allowed them the stick together as well.
