My speedo is not working properly , sometimes it reads correct speed...other times or most of the time it doesnt work at all... any ideas would be good, is a cable or sensor in a 1990 maxima VG30E?
thanks

bad vehicle speed sensor, or bad wiring to it (if its electronically controlled)

if its a cable type setup, bad gears in the speedo, or missing tooth on the trans speedo gear.

Mine has been possessed for about a year, any idea if it can be fixed or replaced?

mine isnt working either, it sits pinned above 145 when the car is stopped and it bounces between 100 and 120 when driving at any speed, havent pulled the cluster yet to find out what it could be...

makes for a good speeding excuse to a cop "no i dont know how fast i was going, my speedometer just broke"

if your odometer works correctly then you need a cluster.
if the odometer doesn't work, then you should check the Speed Sensor to start with.

speedometer quit working

We also had a problem with our 89. The first day we purchased it a year ago, the speedo died on the way home. Replaced the speed sensor and everything worked until 3 weeks ago. The speedo then would work sometimes and not at others. The garage said that it wasn't opening correctly, so we bought another speed sensor from the dealer. Same thing is happening. Is it more likely to be an electrical problem or is it the gear in the transmission? The check engine light has not popped on since we replaced the sensor the first time.

I had the same problem a long time ago where my speedo would sometimes work and other times bounce all over the place. I bought a whole cluster at a wrecking yard and it solved the problem. No issues for years.
