the life of a max maybe at end

well as many of you know i have been having problems with my ve for forever but now i think its all over. it was almost perfect for about 3 days. then 2 water hoses bust and now it just shoots a lot of white smoke. lots of it. sounds fine other than a little little mis but a lot of white and when in gear it wont stay alive...i didnt find water in the oil so i dont no. im not sure if i should just wait and get the 03 with 6speed or get another ve engine and get the 03 later. what would u do?

Your white smoke could be a leaking injector, unless you let it overheat when the hoses sprung the leak, then it probably is a head gasket, but a leaky o-ring will make it look like 911 coming out your tail pipe. Have you replaced any injectors or messed with them at all?

To be honest, when I gave up my 93, I think back on it all the time. It was my first car, so it probably had more sentimental value more than anything else. It had so many problems, control arm bushings, tie rods, ball joints, calipers, rotors, failed master cylinder, slave cylinder, rear main seal (giving me a lubricated clutch, not good). I changed all those parts, mind you this was a NY car it's whole life, imagine the **** that was covering those bolts. Anyway, the car had a new suspension, all of it, had some motor work, brakes, etc, and you know what? It failed because the e-brake cable snapped IN THE INSPECTION GARAGE. I was so pissed, I had spent 17 hours replacing both controll arms the day before because the bushings were toast. I said **** it, I'm getting a new car. So I did, it was an 02 lancer es, the biggest piece of **** I have ever owned, and will own. I had it about 3 months before I gave it to my little sister so she could have a newer beater car to learn how to drive stick and get to school.

Even now, with my beautiful 02 6-speed, leather, and 3.5L; a car that is in many ways a better car, (except for IRS which I miss , IMO) I still miss my my old 93. It was a great car, the motor had 212k on her, and still purred like a kitten. I love my 02, but I don't think I'll ever be able to forgive myself for getting rid of my 93, for a god-dammed e-brake cable.

yes i replaced injectors but they were fine just earlier this week. it did heat up but did not go past 3/4 or out of the little lines.

How long ago did you replace the injectors? The o-rings can hold a seal for awhile before leaking if they are pinched. 75% heat should not blow a head gasket. Run a compression test, if it checks out, it's most likely an o-ring or two.

I agree with your sentiment but come on, the VE does anything but purr. It is very noisy when compared to a VG30E, your VQ35 etc

hmm, my VE is quieter and smoother than my VG somehow. It really does pur, no VTC clicks at all...

Ok, ok, I had slight vtc clack, but a can of that Engine Restore did the trick, seriously. I dont use oil additives anymore, and that was the only one I have ever used on a vehicle. It got rid of the clack, and the car was as smooth as a baby's ***. (besides the lateral movement by the drivers-side tire before I didnt the control arms lol)

There ya go, you should also be able to smell gas and hear a wierd ticking when you rev the motor if you're flooding some cylinders. Personally i'd bite the bullet and replace all o-rings just so you know you do it right. By "right" i mean, use vaseline on the walls of the injector seats as well as on the o-ring and then screwing each screw on the hold down piece little by little, until both screws are down tight. That's really the only way to be confident they are seated properly. Took me a couple botched installs to realize it's the only way. I think it's Brian who is the Vaseline advocate, so credit goes to him..

Also the more you run/drive it with the injector leaking as is, the more fuel will wash down the cylinder walls. That means the rings will contact the cyl walls directly and gouge and wear them down, killing compression and power.

It wont be that bad with a leaky o ring but I still wouldn't drive it as is.

The water pump is attached to the timing chain, so if the engine is on then the water pump should be moving water. The water pump might need replacing. Whats the temp gauge doing? Going up untill the fans come on?
