y2k eng. transplant
#1
how feasable would an engine transplant be, if i could afford it? figure the engine and tranny is around $5k, how would it line up on the stock engine mounts, drive axles and stuff? anybody thinking of this mod with/out the stillen supercharger? how bout using my car as the test mule?
i'm a poor college student so any help will do.

It won't fit without major fabrication!
No VQ engine will fit in our engine bays. The VQ's use a front, rear, side engien mounts vs our front and rear. Then you will need the entire drivetrain down to the hubs. Next you will need the wire harness and ECU. Its not worth doing. If you want more power from your car contact a speed shop and ask about a turbo conversion. I've been qouted around $2800 for a 6psi turbo upgrade, Stillen SC cost $3500. Of course yours might cost more than mine . Also driving an automatic sets you back even more. Or you can buy the VG30ET from a 85-89 300zx turbo. This engine runs around $400-800 depending on mileage and bolts up to your existing tranny with no problems. You will also need the ECU and wire harness for that motor too, which runs around $150-400 for both.
EDIT: So a VQ might fit but it still isn't worth the cost.
