I found out how to make the clock white
I know people occasionally wonder if it might be possible to do this, and I have as well. For a while I wanted to make the Maxima clock white to match the SE gauge cluster.
My answer has finally come, and the moment of epiphany happened when I recently rode in a 92 Integra, and saw how similar its clock was to ours, but with white digits. Same country of origin, same time period, possibly the same automotive electronic supplier. I decided it was worth the $10 gamble, and picked up a clock on eBay. The display looks identical to ours, I'm waiting until replacement capacitors arrive in the mail, and then I will transfer the Integra display to the spare Maxima clock I have. Here is a photo to hold you all over until the soldering begins:

Replacement capacitors were needed because the ones on my spare Maxima clock are busted. I got a clock from a 90 Integra, but that generation was around from 90-93, so any of those should work as long as they didnt change the clock part way through it.

I ordered some other stuff at the same time too though, if you're just ordering some capacitors then the shipping will make them unreasonably expensive.

Uh, yeah something like that
White may be a different story though. Hope it goes smoothly. Desoldering can be a PITA. PSP posting is almost as bad

Oh yea! well I'm going to the JY tomorrow and I'm work on it right then and there and beat both of you! Muahahahaha! nah I'm just kidding, if you can figure out how to make it blue like my cluster I'll send you a cookie via FedEx overnight before 10am delivery. I'm not kidding.

Was that clock working before? It looks different from my clock, which looks like this one:

Notice there are 3 capacitors, and that long green thing which I cant recall the name of. And why do the buttons on yours look chopped off?

So... I transfered the display tonight, and it "works" fine. maxima_man, I think your dad probably did a good enough job, but you just had a bad clock to begin with, since it is missing parts.
The interesting thing is this: it is still GREEN. The exact same color as the oem clock. It must be the plastic in front of it which entirely determines the color.

kinda like in the integra, it is actually red....right? if it's the plastic outer screen, just replace it with a small rectangle of clear or clear black plastic maybe? I was 'hawking' this to see how it would turn out....also, upon taking apart the clock itself, did anyone ever happen to notice what color the clear plastic was, that the clock shows through?

the plastic is a dark grey color. The whole thing is actually almost see-through if you take off the front cover. Be carefull though, I've broken 3 clocks trying to snap off the face to change the color. It'll crack before you know it, with hardly any pressure at all.
