Automatic in a VG SE

I guess I don't know as much as I thought. I thought all VG SEs came with manual trannys and the VEs could come with an auto.

Today I saw a picture of a 90 SE that has an automatic in it. Is this correct?

89-91 se's came with both auto/manual.

all 89-94 gxe's were auto only.

92-94 se's (ve) also had both auto and manual.

I own a 91SE auto as well, just dropped in a slightly used VG and now the tranny will not shift out off 1st. I would have preferred the manual!

yea most VG's are autos. Its pretty rare to find 5speed maximas peroid. Any one have % numbers or production numbers of standards vs autos?

Just do what I did, and buy a whole 5 speed parts car. It was only $400 and I could have beat them down more but I knew I could part it out for that much and I did. So I basically got a free 5 speed swap.

Id rather have them actually change the auto tranny fluid. I think the ISB's are just weak. Oh well id rather have weak ISB's then diff carrier bearings like 4th gens.....

eh sal right. I usually feel the shifts at least a little on most autos, yours is butter smooth even 1-2. Could be good or bad. I also prefer stick for all but the most luxo cruisers.

GXE have lots of chrome trim on the body,(around the window frames/around the rear tail lights/the front grill is chrome/etc..) The SE's have black trim instead of chrome.

The gxe also has keyless entry button pads on both front doors, under the door handles. The se's do not have this option.

Lots of other differences, but that should be enough for you to make a positive id..

the keypad on the door is usually the most sure fire way to differentiate between GXE and SE
that or the VIN

If I'm not mistaken the gxe has black intrument cluster and the se has white. The gxe also has a smoothe trunk the se had a spoiler on it.

any rebuilder can rebuild it, just be careful of who it is.
look at the vehicles they have sitting there.
