I just want to clear something up thats been bugging me for ages. The 300zx motor is rear wheel drive, how the hell do you put them in a maxima that is front wheel drive? I just want a clear and simple answer

Cheers

If I'm correct....

the VG30E-T(Z31) (the one people swap into their Maxs) is FWD and the VG30DE-TT(Z32) is RWD...I think thats right this always confused me too someone help us both out if I'm wrong!

It's very simple...

Mount the RWD Z31 VG30ET motor transverse in a FWD Maxima and the flywheel will line up with the tranny.

ALL Zs produced so far are RWD. the VG30E-T only works because it's the exact same block as our VG30E block.. you just remove it from the Z, do any work you want to it, turn it sideways, and drop it in the Max.

of course it's a little more complicated than that, but you get the point.

The VG30ET motor is roughly the same size as our VG30E motor so fitting it into a 3rd gen is not very difficult. Also, the wire harnesses, distributor, pulleys, exhaust manifolds are located in the same area when the VG30ET motor is mounted transverse. Another option is the SR20DET. The problem with this motor is that it does not share the same characteristics as the VG30ET. You will have to make your own motor mounts and tranny mounts plus there is intake piping problems as well as header problems. The newer Z's use the VG30DETT motor and if you tried to mount that transverse in the max you would have to cut your the area around your struts and also you would have to relocated your battery and do some more frame cutting near the pulleys.

The VG30ET, is a RWD. As long as its the same block, it doesnt matter if its FWD or RDW it will fit.
