Hi everyone,

I'm a 300z owner and am helping my Dad out on his 1992 Maxima. The guys at twinturbo.net (300z forum) told me that this is THE spot for Maxima questions.

The problem is the car will not start sometimes, not clicking or anything, just will not start. Moving it out of Park and back in a few times resolves the issue and it starts right up. This is a fairly consistent problem and I think it is likely the sensor in the tranny that makes sure the car is in park before it can start.

Is this easy to fix? How do I access the sensor? Any info or leads would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You need what is called a park neutral safety switch go to the local dealership and tell them you need that part and that will fix it. Good luck

Before you go buy a new sensor, there is also a plastic bushing at the bottom of the shifter that falls apart after awhile. You can buy the bushing from the dealer and from what I've heard it's pretty easy to fix.

yeah, many people have problems like that and usually the Shifter bushing is the cause, as Hojo said...
I have this problem myself as well on my 93 auto.
