Hi,

My 91 GXE has 284,000 Kilometres. I had to fix the exhaust manifolds studs shortly after I bought it about a year ago.

At that time, the mechanic noted the following:

"Front Stude had been repaired elsewhere previously; stud was drilled into head on an angle and into water jacket in head. Exhaust still had slight leak from there. To repair properly, you must replace the cylinder head"

About a year after this repair, the exhaust leak has begun again.

-- What options do I have?
-- How much will it cost to replace the cylinder head?
-- Besides, there seem to be an engine oil leak (under pressure) from the crank seals - a dealer informed me.

-- Are we talking of an expensive engine job here?

The car still runs very smooth, and still has a lot of power, and I'd love to keep it for a few more years, but I wouldn't want to fork out $600 every year to fix the manifolds.

Any workable solutions?

Thanks in advance..../Noela

it depends on where you get the cylinder head from. You can get a set of cylinder heads for around $150-300 from a salveyard. The install is gonna be where the money is. Expect to pay around $600-1000 for cylinder head removal and installation.
