There is an annoying clicking noise in my car that I believe is from VTC sprockets gone bad. I have read that these can be rebuilt...however, I have also read that one can disengage the VTC solenoid permanently by adding a ground wire, and that this has no significant effect on the car or its performance. Can anyone comment these methods, or any other suggestions? Thank you.

Question for those who have fixed or grounded VTC's

From reading through other people's experiences with rebuilding the vtc's they do not seem at all reliable compared to the amount of money spent. It's been stated that about 20 or 30 people have used the grounded method, which seems to prevent the persistent clicking, although this does not fix anything.
My question is, to anyone who has rewired the VTC's, have any of your engines failed eventually because of the lack of VTC function?
And to those who decided to let the clicking continue, have anyone's engine's failed after the clicking becomes persistent? Thanks for any replies

DUDE do this first, before going crazy

Get a good motor flush, like STP motorflush (follow the instructions). second Get a high quality oil filter with an anti-drainback valve in it (I use AC Delco duraguard Gold). Let me know your results.

When disabling your VTC you will loose your second torque peak.

The motor flush allows the gums that have built up in the oil gallies high up in the engine with the valve timming spring to be dissolved. Then by using a high quality oil filter it will prevent these gums from forming again. Believe me dude you must try this first before you are disgusted with your max.
