I have a 94 GXE with 178k. The suspension seems like it needs to be fixed up. (when I go over big bumps the tires are hitting the wheel wells) How much can I expect to spend to replace my shocks?

Maybe I'm wrong...

but if your tires are hitting your wheel wells, you've got some serious problems. I hate to think that you might still have stock suspension with 178k miles!!! I wouldn't drive it any further, until you do the following...

4 new springs = $175-$250 (shox.com)
4 new struts = $250-$450 (shox.com)
labor on the above, plus 4 wheel alignment = about $300 or more, not to mention dust boots, strut bearings, etc. from a dealer.

Depending on how long you've been riding the pogo stick, you probably need sway bar bushings, and a few other things. I'm sure I forgot somethings, but this will give you an idea.

Good Luck!
