Recently I realized I had a broken manifold stud on the front of my Nissan V6 engine. An independent dealer worked on it today, said he couldn't tap it out because someone previously had tried to and left a broken "easy-out" in the broken stud. Therefore, he drilled a new hole next to it and replaced the gasket. Now it sounds worse than ever, and the car was smoking out of the manifold quite profusely after I drove it about 9 blocks. I know no one has worked on this problem since I bought the car 18 months ago; is it possible that someone broke that easy out that long ago, and the loud tapping noise during acceleration is just becoming apparent? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Not sure if it applies but be careful of carbon monoxide poisoning!! Drive with windows open. We had the studs changed on my brothers car last month and the mechanic told us before the repair to drive with the windows open.
