my friend got a freakin V6 LE Toyota Camry automatic, he's such a pain in the ***, he claims his car is faster and he will beat me and says it without knowing anything about #'s, car weight or times. His car is simply faster because its his.
Anyone have any idea's on who would take it? We are both stock, I just got 16" 4th gen SE 5-spokes.. If we go from a standstill, who will take it?

not your typical race but...

I don't know if you remember or not, but I roadkilled one of these just with my timing increase and an intake. We raced from 85 mph on up. I pulled on him all three times, once being from 95 mph. This was a V6 XLE. It looked to be around a 1994 body style. Your VE should eat him alive. I don't know how I would fend from a start because in the above race, I never touched 1st or second gear. I would love to go back and see how I'd fend now with my Y pipe because it is much faster at those higher speeds with it on.

You should be able to take him. They are not fast at all. My friend has one of the newer ones and I took it with my VG.

92GXE, touring wing, 18” racing wheels, Port&Polished intake, custom intake, custom yellow interior, racing seats, back seats taken out and replaced with subs and amps, NOS kit, Suspension tech. Lowering springs, custom grille, soon to be custom painted and have the whole engine rebuilt for big shot NOS and custom SC and tranny converted to 5-speed.

It should be close...

but I've killed a 2k Camry v6 easily up to 40mph. My mods: intake, Cattman Y-pipe, and Greddy-catback.

1983 Toyota Camry 12.60 18.90
1988 Toyota Camry All-Trac 11.50 18.30
1992 Toyota Camry SE 7.70 16.00
1992 Toyota Camry XLE 11.20 18.20
1993 Toyota Camry LE 11.00 18.20
1994 Toyota Camry SE Coupe 8.10 16.10
1995 Toyota Camry LE 8.00 16.00
1995 Toyota Camry LE V-6 (auto) 8.40 16.30
1998 Toyota Camry LE V-6 (auto) 7.80 15.90
1999 Toyota Camry Solara SE

I give you the nod only because I had no problem beating one and you should be faster than me...right?
Good luck!

I killed one when I was stock

That was my old 93 SE *sniff, sniff* god rest it's soul! *ahem* anyway, we were at a stop light and taking a left turn. I was on the outside and his 98 Camery witht the new big V6 was on the inside. The light hit green and I took off. Of course, since he had the inside lane and it was a wide turn, he should've gotten out of the turn first, but I stayed with neck and neck all the way through the turn. Then 2nd hit in and at the lower RPM's he started pulling a little, but as soon as my car hit that climax point on the tac (UHHHHH!) he was behind me! So, my friend, the answer to your question is yes!
I had a friend with an Eclipse who talked sh** a lot too. He experience the wrath of the VE engine and never again bragged about how fast his POS was.

Max vs Camry

1. Officially and actually the Max's acceleration abilities are better than 3L Camry's even without any upgrades.
2. Camry's body design is ten times less impressive than 3rd gen. Max, isn't it?
3. Camry's interior is more comfortable but at the same time it's too boring as well as driving comparatively with Max.
4. According to Consumer Reports 93 year Camry is a bit more reliable than Max.

By the by, IMHO Y2k Max looks like a Korean car. I think it's ugly (what a pity)...

Regards,

You'll kick his a$$. I hung with my frien when we were both stock, and now I rip on him. Especially from 40 up. Unless you leave the e-brake on, he has nothin.

not a contest

You will walk away as soon as the vtc kicks in around 4000 rpms. I've raced my friend plenty of times and spanked him every time. Just make sure you power brake if racing him from a stop.

92-93 SE 5sp

I'm still looking for a 92-93 SE 5sp...Camry that is! Slow as heck, but different cuz of the 5sp v6. I hear stock handling sucks too.

YEAH!!!!! DID IT YESTURDAY!!!!!!

Repost from 3rd gen BBS:

"A war of **** talking over who would win, a 1993 Maxima SE auto or a 1992 V6 Camry LE. So yesturday we line up at a spot here in Staten island... dont walk is flashing, we reach out a little bit.... it turns green, BLAM! I jump out, no power brake, just nearly floored it.... he must have did the same, he reached out first and was a foot ahead at like 15 mph.... I floored it, as did he.... even at mid 20s... as soon as I hit second I started to pull on him.... half a car length, in a second I was at 40 +.... he had no ****** chance!!!!!! In third I was killing his ***, about a car length and slowly pulling away, Because of my peice of **** tranny, it took a while for it to shift into 4th, we were both at 60 or so, he must have been in 4th allready.. he pulled up for a second, but as soon as I shifted WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! 6k RPMs never let the pedal off the floor!!!! I ****IN SMOKED HIM!!!!!! Got until like 95, saw him in my rearview, maybe 3-4 car lengths behind and still I was pulling away.... gaining speed like I was in 1st gear.... damn, I never floored it like this before..
This whole thing lasted about 30 seconds or so... Next light I was allready laughing and was thinking up a nice pile of sh*t to talk as soon as we would stop.
By 3rd gear, it was all over, the only time he was catching me was at my shifts, which were all slow as hell... but I nearly redlined every shift. damn that was sweet, I gained so much respect in the power of my maxima. So did he."

you guys were right, when i drove both cars, it wasn't easy to say that i can win off the head, his car is much smoother, a little more soft in suspention and handling but the transmission shifts very smooth and quick, that was my only doubt, but damn, i can' believe i took his *** even with the ****ty tranny.
