My a/c hasn't worked since I bought my car in the spring. The compressor doesn't start at all, and before I brought it in to have my mechanic look at it, I was just going to find out some things I can look for that might be causing it. Any help would be great.

a/c failure --->

Your a/c has a safety switch to protect itself from too much or too litle pressure. If you lost all your freon, this will stop the compresor from coming on.

You can put a can of 134a in to test this theory. If you don't have the tools, it will be difficult to find a leak inside your dash. You can test all the connections in the engine bay with a soapy solution and look for bubbles.

If your system is totally empty, you will have to evacuate (vacuum) it first to get all the moisture out of it.

If your system still has some pressure left, just purge the fill line with refrigerant, and then release into the system.

Good luck,

John
