Cat Converter Removal - question

Hi enthusiasts,
I know that cat removal is a sort of a crime in the U.S. but I live in Central Asia so it's absolutely legal here.
I've read a lot of opinions in Russian sites dedicated to Japanese cars. The common idea is that cat removal gives 5 to 10 additional hp, but there are no any accordance about proper functioning of EGR system because of less exhaust backpressure.
Also I know for sure that there is some difference in ECU software for cars with cat converter and without it. Regretfully there are no JWT here so it's impossible to upgrade the ECU RAM or to buy another type of the chip.
Exhaust sound change doesn't matter.
Does anybody have experience on the matter ?
If it's so, what is better - to bolt a piece of stainless
tube instead of the cat or simply remove all the viscera from it ?
Many grateful thanks in advance,
With best regards,
DDD

I removed my cat and just replaced it with a straight pipe. It seemed to give me a better sound and better throttle response. I'd go for it esspecially if it's legal there.
92GXE, touring wing, 18” racing wheels, Port&Polished intake, custom intake, custom yellow interior, racing seats, back seats taken out and replaced with subs and amps, NOS kit, Suspension tech. Lowering springs, custom grille, soon to be custom painted and have the whole engine rebuilt for big shot NOS and custom SC and tranny converted to 5-speed.

Probably by itself you wont notice much of an imorovement at all. But one you get the total exhaust/intake completed then it definitely will make a difference. All of the littlethings eventually add up in my opinion.

But the performance gains are immense, you do not need to modify the ECU, no need to richen/lean mixtures, and with my 2.25" cat back exhaust, I've got plenty of backpressure and a very good overall power spread along the entire rev range.
So if you want my advice, go ahead man. Do it!

All the converter is, is a heater for the exhuast to burn off all the toxic crap that pollutes the air. If you take it off legal/ illegal, if your car is warm it will pass emmision tests, if cold, it won't! Mine is gone and I straight piped it with only a glass pack where the original one was on the Max's. I didn't put a muffler on but need one, Mine backfires every now and agian, but sounds really good none the less. I just don't have the back pressure and it really hurts my hp by not having enough back pressure. I did have dual exhaust, but it backfired worse then, so I went to single and the hp went up and it ran better, still need a muffler though.
Doesn't matter dude. Just take the damn thing out and you'll gain 10-15hp (I gained 15hp when I gutted mine out). I've just left the shell because here in Australia, running an unleaded vehicle without a catalytic converter is highly illegal. As such, as long as it looks like there's a cat, it's highly unlikely I'd get done for it 3#-)
